SkyWatch Friday

And after crossing to the other side on the swing bridge was this pretty house. The sky was a perfect blue with just the right amount of clouds!

Swing Bridge

On our way home from the Oriskany Festival, we saw this swing bridge and stopped to take a look at it. It crosses Craig's Creek. The sign says only 3 people can cross it at a time. You have to walk very slowly or it really starts to swing! Nick, Christian and Braden crossed first, then Ashlyn, Dalton and I crossed while they waited for us on the other side.

Pie Judging Contest

There was also an apple pie judging contest at the Oriskany Fall Festival. In the photo above, Christian has sampled all 4 pieces of the pies that were entered and is deciding on which one to vote for. He ended up voting for number 4, as well as the rest of my family. I was the only one who voted for pie number 1. I think number 4 ended up winning. It was a bit different than your ordinary apple pie. Seems like it had a sort of cream cheese filling possibly. I'm not sure but it was very good and unique!

Oriskany Auction

At the Oriskany Family Fall Festival on Saturday, we watched a few minutes of the auction. They were auctioning off things like paintings, paintings with a cake (which funny that the painting with a cake went for much more than those sold without cakes, lol), apple pies from the pie judging contest and this pretty old chair being held up fetched about $55.

King Memorial Community Church

Yesterday with temps near 80 and clear blue skies, we woke up looking for something fun to do. We skimmed through the Botetourt View and found the Oriskany Family Fall Festival was going on so we all piled in the mini van and drove down the road.

The festival held an auction to raise money for a new parsonage for their community church, pictured above.

This beautiful little Victorian Church, King Memorial Community Church, was built in 1904 and is located in Oriskany, Botetourt County.

I'll have more pictures from the festival during the week :)

SkyWatch Friday-Remembering 9/11

I drove Christian to school today and this is the scene I saw. The flag at half mast with small flags lining the walkways. The kids were told to wear patriotic clothes. This is the middle school. These children were alive when 9/11 happened, but most not old enough to remember much. Christian had only turned 4 and I was still pregnant with the twins (although at that time we thought it was only 1 baby). I remember watching the Today Show while getting Ashlyn ready for school, 2nd grade. I just turned on the tv when they were talking about the plane that hit the first tower and nobody knew what to make of it when all of a sudden, we all watched in shock as the second plane hit. I took Ashlyn to school that morning then took Christian to McDonalds for breakfast and a bit of normalcy, although you couldn't get away from all the talk of what was unfolding that morning. I remember all this like it was just yesterday. I am happy our schools are reminding the children to also remember this tragic day in America's history.

Faith

While at Braden and Dalton's football game out in Fincastle, I spotted this little building with a cross painted on it. I couldn't get a good photo without the darn power lines though!

High In A Tree

So a couple of hours after spotting the snake yesterday morning I had to leave to pick Christian up from football practice. I was watching the ground carefully since I had no idea where the snake went and didn't want to step on him. For some reason I looked up in the tree and spotted him. I know you can't tell from this picture, but he's about 20 feet up in that tree!

This Morning's Visitor

This morning when Nick was leaving for work, we spotted our "resident snake" again, lol. And yes JM, when I say "resident snake" I mean because he lives here, and hangs around the property, keeping the mice population down. Must be working hard because I haven't seen any mice. Funny that I posted a picture of him yesterday and haven't seen him in a couple of weeks, and now here he is!

This morning's photos are courtesy of Braden!

Surprise!

The other day Ashlyn was digging around in the pool shed when she found our resident black snake hiding in a bucket!

Bulldogs

Yesterday Braden and Dalton had a game in Fincastle at CAMS. They played the Bengals, another Botetourt team. Unfortunately we didn't win but the boys had fun running through this banner one of the moms made before the game! (I noticed that she has Braden's name listed as Brandon B. Guess I should let her know my Braden isn't a Brandon!)

Theme Day-BIG

It's once again Theme Day in the City Daily Photo Community. This month's theme is "Big". My brother had gone to a pig roast in Franklin County on Saturday. Franklin County is known as the "Moonshine Capital of the World" and there was plenty of moonshine flowing! He brought Nick home a jar to sample. I had a couple of sips, it wasn't as strong as I was expecting it to be. We had plain I guess but he said there were flavors like Blueberry and Apple Pie, yum!
