2010 State Leadership & Recognition Conference in Virginia Beach
And this is the reason we were in Virginia Beach. Ashlyn had to attend the FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) Leadership/Recognition Conference and there was a big gala for parents. (Ashlyn is 4th from the right, the little one :) )
To learn more about FCCLA and all that it has to offer, click HERE for National or HERE for the Virginia Chapter.
Ashlyn has been a part of FCCLA since the 8th grade and has really grown from it.

A Flock of Seagulls
I love seagulls. Being originally from San Diego, we saw them all the time. I always enjoyed feeding them while at the beach, even though I knew better because you know, you feed a couple and the next thing you know you are surrounded by hundreds all swooping down on you for a snack.
I miss seeing these oceanic icons and occasionally will see a lost one or two flying around a shopping center parking lot and wonder how they got there, being 5 hours from the coast like we are.
These seagulls pictured above are in Virginia Beach. Have a great day!

pourpre
I love all the different colors of spring! The yellow on the Forsythia has almost completely been replaced with green leaves but we still have the purple flowers of the Redbud trees hanging on.
Notice any cool changes around here? Thanks to Diane over at Blue Ridge Gal for making my blog all pretty :)

Country Roads
The road leading out of Craig Creek Rec Area....
How is your weather where you are at? We have had unseasonably warm weather, in the upper 80's/90's and I'm loving it! The kids are out of school for spring break this week, so happy they are getting nice warm weather to enjoy their time out of school!

Creekside
On Easter Sunday we spent the afternoon at Craig Creek Recreation Area
The water was still freezing cold but that didn't stop the boys from getting in! I am thinking we will be spending quite a few summer days at this spot!

Kids Recipes
A few weeks back we had a crab boil. We all love this, the kids and us both! It is so easy and fun and one of the best parts is the easy cleanup (notice how we use only newspapers instead of plates/silverware?) We usually do this outside but the rain came in so we had to move the party indoors. You can really use anything you like in the boil, we use crab legs, shrimp, sausage, corn and potatoes. Line your picnic table with newspaper and when your boil is finished, just dump the basket in the middle and everyone digs in! We have used crawfish in the past instead of shrimp but the kids are not big fans of crawfish and besides, we couldn't find any in the Roanoke area.
This is easily a summer family favorite that the kids request a lot! If you want to have your own boil, there are several recipes online if you do a google search.
I am always looking for fun and healthy foods that the kids will enjoy. What are some of your family favorites for the summer time?
We also do a lot of wraps, chicken mainly. Like yesterday for example, we went on a little road trip (pictures to follow this week of course lol) to a nearby creek. We stopped at Kroger and picked up a couple of rotisserie chickens (the twins alone eat a lot of chicken!)and brought some flour tortillas, cheese and fresh spinach and made chicken wraps when we got there for lunch. They were so light and yummy, great warm weather food! Avocados and tomatoes (although a really high price right now, need to grow out own!) and sprouts would have been a great addition! My kids actually like wraps better than sandwiches!

April Theme Day - Red
First of the month means Theme Day amongst the City Daily Photo Community.
Sunday was the Nascar race at Martinsville. It was cold and rainy and was eventually cancelled and rescheduled for Monday. Monday was a beautiful, sunny day at the race, two major extremes!
My contribution is the red McDonalds car, and I admit to completely forgetting about theme day this month till I saw Jilly's lady in red!
Happy Theme Day!
