Train Cars

Bedford

“I like trains. I like their rhythm, and I like the freedom of being suspended between two places, all anxieties of purpose taken care of: for this moment I know where I am going.”

Foggy Day on the Parkway

On Saturday afternoon the boys wanted me to drop them off at the park so they could play basketball and I wanted to go take some pictures so I jumped on the Blue Ridge Parkway and thought I'd snap some pics of the views from the overlooks...I decided to head north on the parkway and this was my first stop...a little fog...not too bad...so I pulled out and climbed up the mountain a little more for the next overlook...
I got a little nervous driving to this overlook as I drove right into some thick fog and could barely see but then it became clear...so I thought it would be ok to head up a little further to the next overlook...
It was super, SUPER foggy on this stretch so I decided not to chance going any further and headed back down the mountain...
Closer to home now...one of the pretty bridges that are all along the parkway...Linking with Mersad's Through My Lens

Tree of Life

Tree of Life Ministries . 2812 Greenview Dr . Lynchburg

On Saturday the boys had a track meet in Lynchburg. Along the way I spotted this tree on the hill and just really liked it. We were a little early so I drove over to Biscuitville and bought them each a chicken biscuit and a sweet tea for breakfast and then I said, "lets go on a photo shoot and kill time" haha...they didn't mind since they were eating and I wanted to go back and get a picture of this tree :)

And yes, it was also as cold as it looks...freezing rain and just yucky!

Botetourt County

It happened! We got snow! It started in the middle of the night sometime Friday and didn't stop till about noon Saturday...I guess we ended up with about 5 inches but it has been so cold that a lot of roads are really icy so we ended up with a snow day today!
Pictures 1 & 2 are looking up and down my street
Picture 3 is Riley checking out our driveway
Picture 4 is Ozzy and Riley playing...they sure do love the snow!

More Christmas Trees @ The Hotel Roanoke

Last week I showed you a few of the trees around the hotel, here's a few more:
The North Pole Post Office

A tree reflecting in the mirror...don't you just love that mirror?!

This space always gets a big display! One year it was a Polar Express theme, which I showed you HERE and another time was a big gingerbread house, which I know I have pictures of somewhere but guess I never posted it...anyways, this year was a scene from Finding Dory...did you see that movie? I thought it was hilarious! Back on topic, isn't this great?! So much detail! I think that little girl wants to climb right in!

This tree is in the main lobby and everyone likes to come and have their pictures taken here. We've got a few of our own too!

Live Nativity @ Camp Eagle

Last night we went and saw the Live Nativity in Fincastle...It was really neat...when we lived in Georgia there was an awesome one we'd go to each year and this was the first one we've seen since...they did a great job! It was pretty cold, I think in the 30's but at least it wasn't windy or rainy! When you arrive you are put into groups then wait for your group to be called, we were group 14...when they called us we loaded a bus which took us to the starting point of the nativity...there we entered the pavilion and were served hot chocolate and cookies and entertained while we waited again for our group to be called...there were these dapper guys performing and we also saw the church choir. This was the only picture I took...planned to take some from the nativity scenes but once we started I was told no flash and it was just too dark for me to mess with my camera so I know ahead now for next time! This was the last weekend the nativity ran...for more info, and a couple of pictures CLICK HERE

The Halloween Room @ The Biltmore House

Over the weekend Christian went to the Biltmore House in Asheville, NC with his girlfriend Madeline and her family. These murals were painted down in the basement which is known as the "Halloween Room". Madeline took these and sent them to me. Who would have thought there'd be murals like these painted in the Biltmore House?! Linking with Monday Murals and Mersad's Through My Lens

The Supermoon

Did you catch the Supermoon last night? Fortunately I had gone outside to trim a few bushes and then noticed the moon coming up over the Blue Ridge Mountains...I ran in and grabbed my camera and voila! It was so pretty, I'm glad I didn't miss it!

Roanoke Mountain Lookout

These were taken on Sunday from the Blue Ridge Parkway at the Roanoke Mountain Lookout point. The 1st 3 photos were taken by the boys, not sure which took what as they were just snapping away passing my camera back and forth each trying to outdo the other...I tell ya, everything is a competition with these 2 ;)

The last photo I caught as I was starting to back up and noticed this couple set up their chairs and a cooler so they could enjoy the sunset...the 1st 3 photos were looking east and this last one is on the other side of the lookout looking west :)

Since it was just the boys and myself on Sunday I had them gather up some of their old sports equipment they can't use anymore and we took it to Play It Again Sports so they could trade it in...they ended up with a bit of money and decided they just wanted a new video game so we went and did that. Afterwards we drove to Rocky Mount and had lunch...walked around a little bit then headed home via the Parkway...It was a good day :)

Buchanan Ghost Tour

On Saturday night we drove to Buchanan to attend their Ghost Tour...I believe it was their 3rd year to hold it and it was our first year to attend...we met at the Wilson Warehouse/Community Center
We purchased our tickets inside...ohhhh a headless woman!

Yummy treats to be had while we wait...Nick had a grilled cheese sandwich and a water and the boys had hot apple cider...

Our tour began up the street at an old church...a funeral was going on so we stopped to watch....each stop of the tour had actors acting out historical scenes from the town...this was one of them...although I cannot remember whose funeral we were attending...

Next we stopped at the fire station which way, way back was an old furniture company...then on to the old bank where a ghostly banker tried to get us to open a bank account...then right down the street to the Buchanan Newspaper which is now a bank, I believe Bank of Botetourt if I remember correctly...anyways, our ghostly newpaper man was telling us how he was waiting for the old newspaper building to be moved to the parking lot next to where we were standing....which it was moved but then burned down and is now a parking lot...our tour guide Joyce was born and raised in Buchanan and knew EVERYTHING...she was so interesting! The rest of the people in our tour (tours were limited to about 10-12 people) were all related to her....I really enjoyed all the people in our group and what they had to add!
The old theater sits right across the street from the empty parking lot...
The bank

Next we headed over to the bridge which had been burned down during Hunter's Raid during the Civil War. Our tour was stopped by a couple of Southern Belles telling us the Yankees were coming...we walked over to the bridge and found a couple of Confederate Soldiers that were telling us they didn't know what was going on and were waiting for their Lieutenant...we saw several "explosions" near the bridge and the Lieutenant arrived all shot up, telling us that the Yankees were blowing the bridge up...more explosions followed and a man on a horse carrying a lantern came and told us about Hunter's Raid!

We then walked a little ways down the road and out of an alley jumped a man in his long johns...he explained he had been robbed and his clothes stolen...apparently this had been happening from Staunton all the way down to Buchanan! He was hilarious and maybe sounded a little drunk!

Next stop was the old Buchanan School which burned down in the 1970's...Our tour guide Joyce had gone to school there and remembered going to sock hops there!

I wish I had taken more pictures but I didn't want to be annoying since it was a small group! We really had so much fun and at the end when I filled out my survey I check the box to be a volunteer next time! Honestly, the boys and I really had so much fun and laughed and laughed...it was historical but they made it entertaining and funny at the same time! Really recommend!

I've posted about Buchanan quite a bit HERE as it really is one of my favorite local towns!
