Storms at the Baseball Field
Last night my oldest son Christian had a baseball game. We got to the baseball fields, West Walton Park in Loganville, and the weather was beautiful. Sunny and warm with a slight breeze. We played 3 innings and the sky got dark, talk was rumbling through the bleachers of nearby tornado warnings moving closer, and then we saw the lightning. All the games were cancelled.
At West Walton Park we have 6 baseball fields. There were baseball games and softball being played on every field. The above photo is of us trapped in our car. The traffic was awful trying to get out of the parking lot! We waited a good half hour as the storms got closer. By the time we made it home, the storms were in full force with very strong straight line winds and even some hail the size of marbles. The storms stayed for about a half hour, then everything cleared up and the air was still!
West Walton Park also has 2 football fields. We play baseball in the spring and football in the fall. We spend alot of time there!

That gray sky is really scary. I know storms can be very bad in your part of the country. I lived in Texas for a few years. We had a tornado in Montpellier in 2000. When I came back from Béziers where I taught, I found my apartment completely ruined. That was a big shock!
ReplyDeleteGlad that your family made it home. I hated those summer storms when I was a kid, they always ruined everything.
ReplyDeletela première photo est impressionnante. Je sais que l'on joue au Foot-Us sous n'importe quel temps, mais au Baseball cela doit être impossible !
ReplyDeletethe first picture is impressive. I know that you play the Foot-Us at any weather, but the Baseball it must be impossible!
I'm glad you were all right. How scary. My kids would have been terrified. The word tornado just sends them into a tail spin. Beautiful pictures though.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are safe. We are well in the tornado season. Last year, a windstorm came through our city's softball complex and knocked a tree on a kid, breaking his leg. They waited out the hail for the ambulance. Love summer, hate the storms.
ReplyDeleteWow Marie, I didn't know you got tornadoes in France! Good thing you were away when it struck, but quite a shock to find your apartment in shambles!
ReplyDeleteI know Jim, I hate when the storms ruin plans and get in the way of our games!
Yes Olivier, we've played many games of football in pouring rain, as long as there isn't any lightning. Once we see lightning, we call it off!
Thanks Stacy! My kids get freaked out too when they hear mention of a tornado! Me too!
Oh my gosh Dusty, how awful! At least he wasn't too badly hurt. Could have been so much more worse. Scary!
When my husband came home from work last night, the road leading into our subdivison was blocked by a tree that had fallen across the road! The strong winds took it right down. There was a police officer there waiting for someone to come with a chainsaw to cut it up and open the road back up.
Lucky for my husband, it was right behind our house so he just parked in the next subdivision and walked home!
I saw the tree this morning, it was pretty big!
I have lived in Montpellier for about 24 years now. We had one tornado here only. There are a few tornadoes in other parts of France every year but I think they don't compare to what happens in Florida for example..... I have never been to Georgia but I was in Florida two or three years ago (?). I was surprised how much devastated some areas were. The "elements" can be very cruel.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you live in a great sports town. Where I live we may have only six baseball fields in the whole town of 90,000. Hockey and soccer are the bigger sports; baseball is definitely on the wane, which I find a little sad.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you and your kids are OK. I have a healthy respect for Mother Nature. I really like your top photo, show the drama of the storm.
ReplyDeleteHaving grown up in the Texas Panhandle, "Louis" knows how those storms can come out of nowhere with great violence and disappear just as suddenly.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to photograph lightening, but never even photographed stormy wether like this. Very grim, but exciting image.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing storm.
ReplyDeleteLots of white trucks and cars! What weather you are having! Hope the sun shines soon!
ReplyDeleteOH, I hate the bad weather and the storms!
