December Theme Day-Circles/Spheres
Today is December 1st (already?!) so of course that means Theme Day for CDP bloggers. The theme this month, Circles/Spheres. When I read what the theme was a few weeks back I thought, "no biggie, this will be easy" but then as December 1 approached I was at a loss.
Yesterday I started decorating my house for Christmas and then settled on a simple wreath I hung on the gate.
The wreath has a long history and many religious associations dating back to the ancient cultures of the Persian Empire. Originally, the circlet was called a "diadem" and took the form of fabric headbands which were sometimes adorned with jewels. Beginning in 776 B.C., wreaths made of laurel leaves were used to crown victors of Olympic Games. Later, when the Games began to move to different cities, each host city would award head garlands made of branches of local trees.
The shape of the wreath, a never ending circle, represents for Christians, an everlasting life, through Jesus Christ, who is after all, the reason for the season :)
And do you know what this means? Only 24 shopping days left till Christmas!

ReplyDeleteoh, nice one Tanya! The circle linked to the season!
ReplyDeleteAn excellent choice for Theme Day and I love how your circle fits in with the season!
ReplyDeleteThe Christmas season is here...I like the cheerful red bow on your wreath!
ReplyDeleteWreaths are the one thing that all holidays seem to use to good purpose. I kinda draw that line at putting them on vehicles but I love this one on the gate.
ReplyDeleteI like the simplicity of this photo. Perfect for theme day!
ReplyDeleteThanks (not) for the reminder of christmas shopping days! Panic!
Excellent choice for the theme day!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it's December already... time flies!
OMG--Christmas is coming way too fast again! :-)
ReplyDeleteWishing you an early Merry Christmas!
What a charming choice and so lovely on the gate and all ready for Christmas too. Nice one!
ReplyDeleteLovely and excellent choice for the theme day.
ReplyDeleteSo simple and yet so nice!
ReplyDeleteI know others have said this, but I loved that it was a wreath on the gate - very "horsey" and rural Virginia!
ReplyDeletePerfect circle photo, and I love that you're the only wreath -- lots of Christmas ornaments (spheres), but only one wreath (that I've seen). The simplicity of the photo makes it. And thanks for visiting my new blog the other day. I appreciated the encouragement!
ReplyDeletei like that critter in the background. That's a field I would like to roll around in!
ReplyDeleteHow neat--a photo a day plus theme day.
ReplyDeleteI love the classic red gate. Only thing is, my horses would be eating that wreath!

Oh Tanya, I love this photo. It's so...Roanoke. From the red gate and its rough-hewn posts, to the damp ground, the thoughtless horse and the bare trees in the cold damp air, it's winter in Virginia and it's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteVery simple and has so much pleasure of home & family & holidays all in one photo. Super theme day post, Tanya!
ReplyDeleteA wreath on a gate - not seen that before - In the UK (and indeed across Europe) it is common to see them on doors at Christmas time.
ReplyDeleteand I just thought it was for decoration.
ReplyDeleteI love the beauty of a simple wreath with a bow. Neat how your choice for theme day really ties into the season. The text was informative too. Excellent theme day post!
ReplyDeleteDoors but not gates. It is strange to my eyes but definitley a festive circle.
ReplyDeleteSorry for my late visit to your theme day contribution ... I like your combination of the theme with the season ... I also like the scene because it remindes me of my youth growing up on a farm/ranch.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated theme day.
The wreath really adds a touch of Christmas down on the ranch!
ReplyDeleteA lovely peaceful pasture and touch of Christmas. The Lord bless.
ReplyDeleteBelated greetings, from Nelson. Thanks for visit and comment!
ReplyDeleteVery nice to have a decoration around. It's that season already.
