CDP May Theme Day - Revolution & Willy Nilly Friday 5 No. 41

Buchanan...looks like a revolution right? The owners, Mr. and Mrs. Bray came to Buchanan from (him) Vegas and (her) NY to open the Glow-a-Rama...they say they are getting pushed out by the Buchanan powers-that-be...I don't know, there's always 2 sides to a story. My one and only dealing with Mrs. Bray and the Glow-a-Rama however was not a pleasant one. A few Mother's Days ago we all went to play mini golf, the 6 of us. Braden and Dalton had been awarded a free round of golf from the Glow-a-Rama for being on the Honor Roll at school. No restrictions listed. So we took their tickets and went to play golf. Go inside, tell Mrs. Bray the we would like to pay for 4 people and show her Braden and Dalton's free round reward (from Glow-a-Rama) and she says that they can only honor 1 ticket at a time. I asked why when each of them received one and asked why one should be punished basically because they are twins. I said, we are paying for 4 people, it is not like we are just coming in and using their free tickets and not paying for anything...*SIDENOTE*...the place was empty, just us...so she continued to argue so I said, "well, we'll just break our family up, I'll take Braden who will be free with his ticket and pay for myself and my daughter Ashlyn and then Nick will come in and he'll bring Dalton who will be free with his ticket and Nick will pay for himself and our older son Christian"...was told again that no, she couldn't do it that we either...she argued and argued and didn't make any sense and just made the experience so terrible that we never went back...we stayed because the boys wanted to play golf and I think in the end she did honor both tickets...RELUCTANTLY....

So...on this day that I took these photos, just a few weeks ago, her husband Ken was standing outside so my husband, who loves to talk and ask questions started asking about all these allegations...He was very nice (although he wouldn't let me take his picture) and took his time explaining his side of the story and then told us that his wife is the one who does the talking with the city officials...aha, it all makes sense now to us...Miss Personality has probably made a few enemies....anyways, I do agree that Botetourt needs something for the kids to do. We are supposed to be getting a YMCA but we also already have a gym so yeah....As the mom of 2 drivers I always hate that my kids have to drive into Roanoke just to go to the movies or find something to do. All this open land you would think someone could come up with a great plan for teens...anyways..enough of that...oh, and their snide remark about "Where's antique alley?"...read about Buchanan being one of the 10 best antiquing towns RIGHT HERE ....if you are super interested in the Glow-a-Rama revolution you can read an article HERE and if you would like to see other interpretations of the theme visit City Daily Photo

  1. That's a shame you had that experience. Also a shame when a place goes out of business, especially when it gives families a fun venue. As you say, always two sides to the coin. Enjoyed the Friday Five and thanks for the links.

  2. Stories, written of life... sigh!
Stunning photos in your link and this criminal... - hehe :-)
Have a great weekend, thanks for hosting

  3. Still, when I read what she did to you, I was glad the place closed down. How could she run a place like for very long with such terrible people skills?

  4. You are right, there are always two sides to a story!

  5. A couple of years ago my oldest granddaughter had her birthday party at one of these glow in the dark places. It was a cool time. Tom The Backroads Traveller

  6. Maybe next time they ought to consider opening a boxing gym and invite the city council over to go a few rounds. :-)

  7. ...that mini-golf experience...all I can say is she was a witch with a "B"!!!

  8. their signage was quite impressive, although i laughed that they misspelled legitimate twice in one paragraph (in two different ways.) :)

i cannot believe that woman didn't want to accept 2 free tickets at once - for twins! sheesh!

  9. Sounds like the woman with the mini-golf probably did run herself out of business...I am surprised she had any at all with that attitude. If you had had half a dozen kids, they should have been allowed their free round of golf. We had a restaurant here in town that used to give out 'free' for good report cards. I can't remember what they gave free...but it was worth going for. And on the day report cards were given, it was a mad house and the owners never complained a bit. Just happy to serve the kids.

You have an interesting 5--I have not checked out the letter thing yet but will later.

  10. She does sound difficult. Too bad it didn't work out though.

  11. Now I want to read the side of the city!

  12. In this case it would have been better for the husband to have dealt with the city- the place might well have still been in business. The anger comes across through the words. Misspellings and all.

    1. that's exactly what we were thinking! maybe things would be different if he had been the one doing the talking!

  13. I guess my question is: does that couple own that building? Or were they going to buy or lease it from the current owner? If the latter, I think the current owner probably put up the signs because he wants to sell or rent his/her property but apparently the wife in this duo messed things up. SOMEONE needs to come in and purchase that property with the same type of business in mind. She sounds like she would be a horrible person to deal with if that couple opened the business themselves. Who gets scr***d? The people in the area who would love to see it open.

LOVED the moving letters from the kids to their parents! And that display of the top photos: some artistically beautiful; some clever; some fascinating; some moving; some disturbing. As always, a good cross-section of life in our world, and great photos!

I pinned the article about the dumb criminal...that was too funny! Sent the pin to my daughter and hubby.

As always, it's fun to be part of your Willy Nilly Friday Five!

  14. Hi Tanya, What an interesting story! Isn't it amaziing what folks can get themselves into? Your minature golf story puts it all into perspective for me. And now the lady cries out for help from the community but doesn't seem to realize one of life's little realities ... What goes around, comes around. Thank you for sharing this post and for your kind comment on my April Photos post.

  15. A really strange and sad story...

  16. Very interesting post about the operation there! I am sorry to hear about troubles.

What about a nice BMX/skating park for the children, Tanya?
May be all the parents can get together, get some sponsorship, and get one of those outfits going - just a thought! I don't have to manage any kids, other than fur-kids, so I am not very knowledgeable in this area.

    Happy Weekend!
    Peace :)

  17. Just the way those signs are plastered all over the place suggests to me that neither the husband nor the wife has all screws tightened down.

  18. Love the Black Dog Project.

  19. Amazing how petty some business owners and staff can be, they need to take a chill out pill.

  20. Awesome! Words not lacking!

  21. Antique Alley looks pretty good to me Tanya as does your dinner last night :) The Sony photos for 2015 were amazing, not so much the lady from Glow a Rama, she sounds ghastly. Very entertaining post Tanya :)

  22. There are always two sides to a story - but sometimes, you may not really want to listen to one side!! Customer service at its best by the sound of it!

  23. Hi Tanya. Yes, I'm back. You have certainly packed a lot of information into this post. Enjoyed reading about the Buchanan's in particular. Hope things get sorted!!!!

  24. Sometimes it really is hard to try and start something new. So many rules and regulations. Of course, it would help if people were nice. I really need to remember to come back and join in for your Willy Nilly 5.

  25. It appears someone is not very happy with the new regulations...
