Black & White Wednesday - The Loo

Breckinridge Elementary School . Fincastle

Haha I bet you didn't expect this 😂
Last night the boys had a basketball game here. We've had many basketball and baseball games at this school over the years and this little old restroom located in the gym always strikes me with a bit of nostalgia!

Breckinridge was built in 1949 with more additions added over the years. Not sure when the gym was built but it seems pretty old!

New schools are pretty and I'm sure kids and teachers appreciate the modernness of new architecture but the older schools really appeal to me!

Willy Nilly Friday Five

I am heartbroken this morning after reading the news that Tommie died. He's the dog I told you about yesterday... today's Willy Nilly will be about my own Ozzy in honor of Tommie 💔

1)
There's few things Ozzy loves more than going on a hike!

2)
Or his Christmas stocking...

3)
His favorite spot in the house where he can spy on the neighbors 😉

4)
Snow! He loves playing in the snow!

5)
But his most favorite thing is spending time with his family ♥️

Have a great weekend! Linking with Tom's Willy Nilly

Happy Valentine's Day - Buckle Up

Along 460 in Blue Ridge

Saw this sign today while I was heading home! Actually I live in the opposite direction so I had to turn around so I could get a picture....don't worry there weren't any cars around and I didn't even look at my phone...just snapped a pic and hoped you could read the sign...after much cropping you can 😉
To be honest I can't believe there are still people who don't wear their seatbelts but I hear about them often.

Today I am thankful for first responders, the generosity of others and the courage of a Pit Bull that I have never met named Tommie. A couple of days ago an evil person tied Tommie to a pole and lit him on fire. The firefighters across the street responded quickly and got the fire out. But poor Tommie has severe burns over most of his body. Richmond Animal Care and Control have him and are seeing to his care and medical needs. Through the generosity of others they have managed to raise money for his medical bills plus raise a $10,000.00 reward for info leading to the arrest of the monster who did this.

Today Tommie got up and walked around a bit!

If you would like to follow his journey you can check out their Facebook page HERE

Monday Murals - School Spirit

Lord Botetourt High School

Love this mural inside our high school featuring different clubs and sports of the school...Ashlyn was in FCCLA starting in middle school when we lived in Georgia...she was a State Officer representing Ga and VA all through school and now she is still participating in events as an alumni.

Christian ran track through high school and the boys play football and occasionally track.

The Catawba Crazies is the school spirit section and support sporting events.

Help Save The Next Girl was formed after 20 year old Morgan Harrington was abducted and murdered in 2009. There are chapters at many schools including ours.

Do you recognize any of these groups/clubs at your own school?

Pray For America

Glade Creek Baptist Church . Blue Ridge

This was taken over the summer...it's not that green here right now although today it is supposed to be near 80 degrees! Waking up to birds singing and I'm getting spring fever!

Today I am thankful that Dalton is feeling better. He came down with that flu going around on Monday and missed 3 days of school but he's up and getting ready for school as I type this out! It seems like half the school is out with it...sending healthy vibes out to you!

City Daily Photo Theme Day - White

Blue Ridge Parkway

Since it's so cold I went back to find a picture from summer...this was on my birthday in August. The boys were at football practice and Nick and I picked up some picnik food from the grocery store and jumped on the parkway and ended up here...not too far from our house. I thought the white clouds would fit in fine with February's theme! And I am ready for summer! To see more theme pictures, visit City Daily Photo

Big Lick General Store

829 Tazewell Ave SE . Roanoke

Did you know that before Roanoke became Roanoke it was called Big Lick? It was named that for the salt marshes. Wildlife like buffalo, elk and deer would gather there and the Indians who hunted them.

Today schools are on a 2 hour delay because of the cold. Starting out here at 11 degrees but warming up this weekend!

Today I am thankful for the sun setting a little later each day reminding us that spring is just around the corner!

Old Town Paint and Body

Lee Hwy . Troutville

I like their simple homemade sign although I don't think they are in business anymore.

Today I am thankful for my kids... everyday of course but even more so this week after just learning of the passing of a young man from a rival football team...he had a brain aneurysm during weight lifting and passed away. He was only a junior in high school. Just heartbreaking 💔

Tuesday's Treasures - Martin Luther King Jr Memorial

MLK Jr Memorial Bridge and Statue . Roanoke

The Martin Luther King Jr. statue at the Martin Luther King Memorial Bridge in Downtown Roanoke stands as a 7-foot tall bronze statue that was designed by the husband-and-wife team of Jeffery and Anna Varilla. The bridge, formerly known as the Henry Street Bridge, was renamed and dedicated in honor of Dr. King in 2008. The spot used to serve as a symbol of segregation in the city as it divided Downtown Roanoke from the Gainsboro neighborhood. Now, the bridge and statue feature quotes from Dr. King and it serves as a powerful symbol of the region's rich African American heritage and history. It's also located near the former Hotel Dumas on Henry Street, which was known for being the spot of legendary late-night jam sessions with musical icons like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and Count Basie.

GE Closing

SW Roanoke

I took this picture back in December. Notice all the snow still left from our record breaking amount we received a few days earlier?!

A few of these signs were placed around Roanoke and Salem by the Union. You can read about that HERE

Today I am thankful for my own job! I enjoy working at the high school and started there when Ashlyn started 9th grade and saw her and Christian come through and now Braden and Dalton who are already in 11th grade! I work with a great bunch of people and all the kids are fun to be around!
