Love On The Maury River

A few weeks back we took a short road trip to Lexington. On the way home we stopped along the Maury River. The Maury River is in a beautifully scenic setting with lots of huge rocks to jump on (the kids really liked that part). While we were exploring, Ashlyn found this sweet little message :)

Lord Botetourt High School Homecoming Dance

Last weekend was Homecoming at Lord Botetourt. This is my baby Ashlyn and her boyfriend Austin before they headed out to the dance. Isn't she beautiful and doesn't he look dapper? :)

My camera broke. Evidentally hardwood floors and cameras don't mix. Braden and Dalton were making "movies" (yes, they are going to be the next Quentin Tarrantino's!) and my camera fell off its tripod. It is beyond repair, won't focus, just really messed up. I thought, no big deal, Ashlyn has one, same make/model as mine, that she NEVER uses, maybe has used a handful of times. I'll just use that in the meantime, wrong. Her's just beeps 3 times then shuts itself off. The batteries are charged, I don't know what's wrong with the thing. That being said, they are Samsung cameras and you know how much I dislike their customer service, or lack-there-of...I've never even been happy with the quality of pictures, so needless to say my next camera will not be a Samsung.

So, what point and shoot do you recommend? I had a Canon, I think it was a Sure Shot, that I loved (another one bites the dust due to Braden and Dalton a few years back) and this camera could not take a bad picture, and believe me, my photo abilities are not all that great and this Canon took awesome shots, always!

So I'm in the market for a new camera...oh and if any camera companies stumble upon this and have a camera you insist on letting me use and write up a gushy review with my photos, I'm open to that option too ;)

Luckily for me, I have a big stock pile of photos to use...back to blogging!

SkyWatch Friday

And after crossing to the other side on the swing bridge was this pretty house. The sky was a perfect blue with just the right amount of clouds!

Swing Bridge

On our way home from the Oriskany Festival, we saw this swing bridge and stopped to take a look at it. It crosses Craig's Creek. The sign says only 3 people can cross it at a time. You have to walk very slowly or it really starts to swing! Nick, Christian and Braden crossed first, then Ashlyn, Dalton and I crossed while they waited for us on the other side.

Pie Judging Contest

There was also an apple pie judging contest at the Oriskany Fall Festival. In the photo above, Christian has sampled all 4 pieces of the pies that were entered and is deciding on which one to vote for. He ended up voting for number 4, as well as the rest of my family. I was the only one who voted for pie number 1. I think number 4 ended up winning. It was a bit different than your ordinary apple pie. Seems like it had a sort of cream cheese filling possibly. I'm not sure but it was very good and unique!

Oriskany Auction

At the Oriskany Family Fall Festival on Saturday, we watched a few minutes of the auction. They were auctioning off things like paintings, paintings with a cake (which funny that the painting with a cake went for much more than those sold without cakes,lol), apple pies from the pie judging contest and this pretty old chair being held up fetched about $55.

King Memorial Community Church

Yesterday with temps near 80 and clear blue skies, we woke up looking for something fun to do. We skimmed through the Botetourt View and found the Oriskany Family Fall Festival was going on so we all piled in the mini van and drove down the road.

The festival held an auction to raise money for a new parsonage for their community church, pictured above.

This beautiful little Victorian Church, King Memorial Community Church, was built in 1904 and is located in Oriskany, Botetourt County.
