Skippin Rocks On The River By The Railroad Tracks

To quote Tim McGraw (one of my favorite summer songs!). Anyways, we took a short drive down the road to
Eagle Rock on Sunday afternoon. Ashlyn had slept over at a friends house Saturday night so it was just Nick and myself and the boys. Eagle Rock is such a quaint little town, I loved it. It looks like it was once a booming railroad town, nestled in the hollow. Great old historic homes and buildings. I could have walked around all day snapping photographs if it wasn't so cold and if it wasn't for the feeling of car sickness I was getting travelling up and down the windy roads. We pulled over and took a walk along the James River before heading back home. Stopped and picked up a sandwich for lunch and I made some hot soup, then we settled in and watched Get Smart. Have you seen this yet? It was hilarious!

  1. We say "skimming" rocks, but same thing. Great fun when you are young. Especially in the ocean. - Dave

  4. Beautiful and peaceful place, but it looks really cold...
Are you talking about Get Smart, the new movie, or the old b&w tv episodes from the 60s?

  5. Never seen or even heard of get smart, will have to google this to see what it is about. I get car sick mostly when I either read in the car (which is why I don't anymore) or I have my face down while I do something like this morning I was trying to attach a lens to my camera and by the time i found the right piece etc... i was feeling sick!!

The photo next to the lake is so pretty!!

  6. Neat to skip rocks and not have to worry about anything. Looks like time is standing still for them.

  7. Good morning Dave, Olivier, Web, JM, Dina and Jim :)

JM, it was the movie Get Smart. You'll have to see it!

Dina, I used to be able to read while riding in the car but can't do it anymore.

Web, yep, there's fish in there but we didn't go fishing but it looks like a great place to go when the weather warms up!

  8. I remember doing that!

We live in the mid-west where there are no hills and winding roads. When we travel back to Maryland to visit the family, I notice when we get in the mountains and the winding roads, the dog starts to look like the bobbing dogs in the rear windows of cars. Remember those? ;) I think it kind of makes him car sick...

  10. Isn't this the best fun. Takes me back to childhood days - and not so childhood days, doing the same thing. A lovely photo.

  13. Remind me of that beautiful movie
    "A river runs through it"
Looks like a pretty little town.
Any town with a river for me is beautiful!

  14. We "skip" rocks! All in all I'd be pretty satisfied after a day like that I have to say.

  15. Sounds like a nice family time Sunday drive and that's good - it's good to hear families still do that- it keeps the kids outa trouble.
The trees there really ARE bare in your world - ours are still "almost" full of leaves, but they're starting to fall now.
I love decorating for Christmas - I already have my tree up at home and I'll be adding more Christmasy stuff to my page as the holiday season draws near.

  16. Did you see the iron kilns there? Eagle Rock is indeed a great old community. Lots of history.

  18. I like winter shots, we do not get many in Australia ( except in tasmania and parts of victoria) your shot reminds me of England when I was a kid

  19. River, rocks, boys - 3 things that always go togheter well. Don't we call it skipping stones? Sounds like a lovely way to spend a day (except for the car sickness).

  20. Country Dew, no I didn't see the kilns but I noticed them in the link that I posted for Eagle Rock. I'm wanting to go back and look around some more!
