The Geese
I've really gotten attached to my little geese friends. They are so graceful when they float around the pond and they look so cute strutting around the pasture. If they get too close to Bucky, he'll chase them, but really they have been co-existing nicely. The dogs have even gotten used to them.
Yesterday I saw them wandering around the pasture so I grabbed a loaf of bread (we used to feed the ducks/geese at a pond when I was small with bread and they'd become your best friend!) hoping they'd come a little closer to me. Well as I was tossing torn bread towards them, silly Bucky kept taking it all. I'd through a piece and he'd run after it and eat it. I finally had to give up because I didn't want Bucky getting sick and plus there was no way to get the bread past him. What a funny horse.
Today is a snow day, no school for the kids. There's not any snow on the ground, nor is is snowing right now but it's supposed to ice this morning and then snow after 9:00 a.m. but no accumulation was in the forecast. The kids are sound asleep and they will be so happy when they wake up on their own and realize there's no school! All except Ashlyn that is. I woke her up ealier to tell her to turn her alarm off that there was no school, she was actually upset, she loves school. She's a freshman this year and is so happy at her new school.
jour de neige, pas d'école, tes enfants doivent être content ;o)) direction la luge ;o))
ReplyDeletedays of snow, no school, your children should be content ;o)) leadership sledging ;o))
Well, I'm glad they've been able to charm you...now, just hope they don't invite too many friends!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're enjoying them too...beware of friends. I just learned they multiply by 1000 every 10 years. You could have 2000 in ten years. (I'm not sure if I believe that or not, but that's what I read at the Metro Parks.)
ReplyDeleteBe careful of the bread. When Rebekah was little, we were camping and heard a flock of geese come in. I grabbed some stale bread and we ran out to feed them. One choked on the bread and choked to death right before my eyes. It was horrible. It took a while (it seemed like an eternity). The other geese made a ring around the dying goose and stood silently watching and waiting for it to die. The park ranger came over and yelled at us for killing the goose and being stupid. (Unnecessary in my opinion, we felt horrible enough, and all we were trying to do was be nice.) Truly awful and it will stay with us forever. I did learn if you want to feed them cracked corn is the thing to feed them--though Bucky might like that as well. ;-)
I'm glad Ashlyn's having a good year. That's terrific.
Oh, Mom24,,, what a terrible thing to have to watch. We all know you will be careful, Tanya, oh great lover of animals....

Glad the geese are settling in nicely. Who knows.. they may move on once spring comes.
Oh my gosh Stacy, that's awful! So sad too the way the others circled around him...so sad :(
ReplyDeleteWhat a funny story! I wonder what Bucky was thinking, if he thought it was a game or maybe that you lost your mind, throwing perfectly good food around the yard! haha
ReplyDeleteWaitaminute ... just occured to me ... maybe Bucky knows about the geese multiplying by 10 thing? Just like the Californians who yelled at me when I was fresh off the farm, for feeding seagulls on the beach. Feed one, and they multiply by 10 every second. LOL
ReplyDeleteThe geese are lovely and so relaxing to watch. It sounds like the bad weather is affecting a lot of people. I just read a blogging buddies blog a few minutes ago from Arkansas and it is icy weather there. My daughter in Maryland said school was closed there because of nasty weather. Here in Iowa it is cold but beautiful outside. Sun is shining.
ReplyDeleteHave a fun day with the family today!
It's good the geese and horse are coexisting so nicely. I just hope the geese don't invite too many of their friends to come by.
ReplyDeleteAlways hard to do the right thing. Hope the snow has cleared. My ynderstanding of geese is that they are very territorial so can if threatened attack. I'm sure your two are very friendly however.
ReplyDeleteYou feeding the geese reminds me of the movie The Notebook & the part where he rows her out to a hidden part of the lake where hundreds of ducks are all around them in the boat & she starts feeding them. I love that movie!!! I have a clip of that part at the bottom of my page if you want to see it.
ReplyDeleteAs for the weather here, I'd iced in - we're nothing but ice. There's branches cracking & crashing to the ground all around me & some w/o electric - I have electric as of right now, hopefully it'll stay on!!!
Glad the horse and the kids had a good day. Apart from the geese and your daughter! Lol :)
ReplyDeleteJust love the reflection and the serenity. Really nice capture
ReplyDeleteGeese are so graceful both in sky and on water. Nice pic.
ReplyDeletelovely capture
ReplyDeleteBet the boys enjoyed the day off school! - Dave
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the geese haven't worn out their welcome!
ReplyDeleteIt's great that Ashlyn loves school. I bet the boys like school too, they just like playing more. :)
Here in Paris, there will not be any schools open either this Thursday! Not because of snow, because of strike (surprise)!
ReplyDeleteJust wait 'til spring when they have their babies! Goslings are the cutest!! That's so funny that Bucky kept stealing the bread - what a brat. ;-)
