Signs, Signs - Food Lion

Food Lion in Daleville. This is pretty new. Opened a couple of years ago. I'm in the middle of two grocery stores, this one and Kroger. I do about 90% of my shopping at Kroger and run into Food Lion for a few specials I find in their ads.

I remember going grocery shopping with my grandma when I was little. We would shop at Safeway, Alpha Beta and Big Bear. These were on 2nd Street in El Cajon, Ca. At the end of our shopping trip, I'd get to pick something out and I'd always pick a big pack of that Zebra Striped Gum. Loved that stuff! Funny the things we remember right?

Where do you do your grocery shopping?

  1. I shop at Wal-Mart for all canned and dry good items and get my fresh meats and veggies at Kroger

  2. Plenty of choice here in Coventry. I tend to go where the bargains are and I am always on the lookout for American food and sweets :).

  3. We always got zebra striped gum to take to church...or Ludens cherry cough drops, which were like candy...to keep our mouths busy so we wouldn't talk. My grandmother would give me Adams clove gum...still love that aroma...find it in petunias...that takes me back to her kitchen. Yes, it is funny what will spring a seed of memory to life.

You are so lucky to be in the middle of two grocery stores! We only have two in our town, HEB and Wallyworld...and they are both wayyyyyy across town. No fair, I say.

  4. I always hated to have to go grocery shopping with my Mama, but now I'd love to be able to do that again. Today, we shop mostly at Winn Dixie and WalMart, but neither carries some of the items we want, so we get those the few times we go out of town to Publix.

  5. Mostly Foodlion but just to buy reduced meat. We grow our own vegetables for the most part. When I was little there was a country store near our house and I used to help them stamp the prices on the cans just for fun.

  6. Kroger or the dreaded Wal Mart. But we do have some Mennonite stores that I frequent.

  8. We shop at Fred Meyer - which is a west coast version of Kroger - bit store - long lines - crowded parking lot, but all grocery stores in our town are. But we buy meat at Albertsons because they have a real butcher there.

  9. I haven't seen a Food Lion in ages! Ever since early days living in DC (long ago:) I also have a lot of early food/grocery-related memories, I admit (Safeway was also big in Honolulu, HI). Happy to know I'm not the only one!

  13. As a kid growing up in Portland Oregon, I remember Friday grocery shopping with my Mom. This would be an all morning ordeal. She would go to Tradewell, Albertsons and Fred Meyer (now Kroger) for there specials. Next she would go across the street to Safeway for a large amount groceries, last she would go to Thriftway and Phoenix pharmacy to finish out the trip. She was armed with a weeks worth of coupons and advertised specials.

Nancy & I on the other hand go to Winco an northwest chain for 90% of our shopping. In several surveys they have the lowest overall prices and they are right up the street.
