Signs, Signs - Farmers' Supply

(click on photo to enlarge) Floyd Co

Horatio Howard Building (Farmers’ Supply Store)
101 E. Main St.
1897. Horatio Howard constructed this building after the great 1896 town fire. Note the cast iron “stars” capping structural tie rods, the pressed glass tile transoms on the storefront, and early painted advertising on the west wall. Originally a mercantile store for Howard and partner Thomas B. Huff, it’s been Farmers’ Supply Store for about 85 years.

  6. I bought a pair of plow handles there a few years ago, couldn't find them anywhere else, they were for a plow not the little ones for garden tools.

  8. That's a wonderful old fashioned sign. Not many farmer's supply and hardware places survive. There are many fewer farmers and the hardware business has been taken over by big box stores. When I moved to this town in the 1970s it had a half dozen hardware stores and at least two farmer's supply places. We now have two hardware and one farmer's supply stores. Fine sign.

  11. I love old buildings like that, and you've captured a good shot. I have never been to Floyd, though I don't live too awfully far away. Looks like a great place to visit.

  17. This building looks spic and span and the sign looks like it was painted yesterday. I don't know how much business there is for farmers supply and local hardware stores down there, but the owners are taking care of their property.
