Random 5 Friday Fences

A sweet little antique shop, Main Street, Buchanan. Just up a bit from the theatre. Did I go in you ask? No, all those children I had with me protested. But I LOVE the checkerboard tile. Such a welcoming entry don't you think?

For the Friday Fences portion: Does a hand railing count? This one does, I think? Kinda sorta? To see more fences, or ummm hand railings, visit Friday Fences

Random time:

1) Right now I'm drinking my coffee.....BLACK...gasp...I ran out of cream and milk. Actually it's not too bad. I've been weaning myself off cream/sugar by only putting it in my first cup so as I refill it has less and less and then it's practically black anyway by my last cup.

2) I'm reading this right now:

3) I've got to head out shortly. Having Christian drive. Tomorrow is his first actual day as a LICENSED driver. He wants to take my little mini van to visit his girlfriend. In Buchanan. The drive to Buchanan is terrible. One way is Springwood. Although it is my favorite way, it's very rural and narrow, very narrow. I worry about him driving that route. Then there's the freeway. Of course I worry about that too. Driving fast, big trucks...ummm no...then there's 11. I think that's a better drive for him, and me ;) So we are taking it for a trial run today. 11 is a pretty drive too so I think I'll bring my camera along. That will annoy him ;)

4) We watched The Wolverine last night. I liked it.

5) This is our last day of Christmas break. I am going to miss these boys when we all go back to school on Monday. BOO! I really love hanging out with them.

Visit Nancy over at Rural Journal for more randoms!

Have a GRRREAT weekend!

  3. Christmas break went WAY too fast. I'm bummed it's pretty much over and the boys return to school next week.
I'm going to be so nervous on the rural curvy roads when the boys start driving.

  4. Heck, I remember when I panicked when my son went for his 1st bike ride alone. That was nerve-racking, really.

  5. yes, i really like this entrance . . . Bet there were super treasures in side - those youngsters probably saved you a mint . . (smile)

There is a marvelous teacher here using the Wolverine as a teaching tool . . (wish I'd thought of it, his methods REALLY Work.)

    Happy Happy to YOU!

  6. Tanya,

Small town shops are fun. There are some really cute ones scattered across the country.

The Hubby always makes fun of me and my coffee. I like strong black coffee and add mocha cappuccino to it. He tells me I can't taste the coffee because I add so much stuff to it.

Hope you had a great time having the kids at home over break. Think spring ... spring break will be here before you know it.

  7. Cute little shop- I would have made the kiddos sit outside while I checked it out! I'm a Dr Pepper addict, but I relate to your black vs sugar & cream because I used to continuously switch from regular to diet to 10. Until I found out that aspartame was germ poop. Now I just drink the full- caloried DR P. It would be so much easier to drink black coffee!

  11. i believe a handrail or deck rail or guard rail qualifies for fencing. :) good luck w/ the worry tomorrow.

  12. It's always worrying when our children gain more independence, thanks for visiting my blog today.

  15. That is a neat entrance. And I like the ornate look of the railing/fence. Good luck with the driving. I learned to drive on Virginia back roads. It was the freeways that scared me more! :-)

  16. Boy do I remember those days...worrying when they first started driving !

  17. Oh, never pass up an opportunity to annoy your teenager! It's one of life's little pleasures at that age. :-) Love your photo and hope you can make it back into town some day by yourself to browse through the shop. The book sounds interesting. Enjoy!
    Visiting from Random 5 Friday.

  18. I love the entryway...looks like a fun place to shop. You are a brave woman riding with a new driver! I'm always nervous even when riding with experienced drivers. I understand about the worry, it's what good moms do! Like I always told my kids, if I didn't love them, I wouldn't worry about them. :)

  19. What a festive shop! January always looks so drab when the decorations come down (but I grit my teeth when they're IMMEDIATELY replaced in stores with Valentine decorations! Having a little breather between holidays should be a requirement!) I must say, I'd be way to nervous to go into an antique shop with children in tow. Or dogs. Or while wearing a bulky coat. :-)

Good for you for weaning yourself off the milk and cream! Have you tried almond milk? Chocolate almond milk is wonderful in coffee (though it does have sweetener in it). Good luck with your healthier start to the New Year, and have a wonderful 2014!

  20. I really wish I could drink my coffee black. I have to have soy milk and sugar!

  21. A rail will do just fine. It is just a shorter fence version.

  22. We had our Christmas break extended due to a huge blizzard that swept through New England. Yay....sort of

  23. oh, I certainly would have gone into the sweet shop if I'd been with you! so charming.

  24. Gasp...coffee with no creamer! I simply couldn't manage it. The book looks like an interesting read but alas, I have a long list already. Let us know how you like it!

  25. Note to self: put in Buchanan to see exactly where it is (must visit that antique shop....)
As the mother of a (now grown) son, I can totally relate to those feelings you have about your son driving. And, trust me, the worry will NEVER go completely away....
Thanks for visiting today - have a good weekend!

  26. What a cute shop, yes, I would have gone in and probably leave with something under my arm. Yes, it is very nerve racking when your teenagers begin to drive...worry, worry. And then when the grandkids start driving the worry begins again.

  27. How did the drive with Christian go? My granddaughter just got her drivers license and I hate to think of her driving on these snowy roads.
How are you liking the book you are reading now?

  28. My son is a new driver and we have been having bad weather. Yikes! I understand your situation!

  30. I really like that entry, too. (You will get used to black coffee and eventually prefer it . . . and good luck with the novice driver.)

  33. ...my grown son LOVES the Wolverine!!!

That front entrance doorway is so beautifully decorated. And altho I don't drink coffee or anything that is high in caffeine, my husband would tell you that black is the only way to drink coffee. Ha.

  34. Oh, goodness ... when the kids begin to drive ... ack! ;) Love the photo and I think the railing counts as a fence. What a charming place. My Daddy drank coffee ... black. Probably why I'm a tea girl! Happy New Year!

  35. Sounds like you had a nice Christmas break with the boys! You will always worry every time your child gets behind the wheel (just saying). Yep a railing counts in FF...mine was a railing also this week!! Love that old door shot too!

  36. The antique shop looks SO cute.
Black coffee? Wow. Not for me. I did give up sugar….but I'll go to the grave enjoying my cream: )
The driving thing NEVER gets easy….I DO a lot of praying!

  37. The kids always get the minivans when they start out :)

  38. Sure, the handrail counts! The store looks so quaint.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Even though both my boys are in their 30s -- I still worry about them driving. :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. That's the sort of shop that would draw me in.

As for the Wolverine: I liked it. Jackman playing the character is the only way I can stand the character. The comics version I tend to refer to as the Drunken Hobbit, and deeply despise that version at all levels.
