This beautiful old home sits next to yesterday's motel. Like I said yesterday, it is closed for a couple of months due to the partner's broken leg. I read the reviews I found online and for years they received wonderful reviews. I think it has been struggling in the last year or so. Probably because it is so much to run a house of this size and age! I also read that the owner rescues dogs and I think that the one in the photo is "Schnoopy" that I happened to see in an older review. I had the boys stand next to that great old tree just to show you how huge it is! I also read that they had intentions of turning the motel into cottages at one point. And remember, this is for sale for those that like a little hard work. What a wonderful old home this is...you can read its rich history HERE
What a fascinating place, I can just pictures the mules wearing their felt boots on the lawns too!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful Victorian house, but in need of some TLC. If those back windows don't get some paint soon, they may need restoration and replacement. Most interesting photos.

ReplyDeleteOh my, what a grim history this has!! A hanging and a buried alive person, Edgar Alan Poe would love it! I adore your shot of the dog in the window, and the glorious paint color of the house. I am glad that it is still vibrant and taken care of.

ReplyDeleteThe second photo makes it appear that the place is a shambles, but the rest of the set make it look pretty good. I'm still not going to buy it.
ReplyDeleteyeah, i only saw that side and the front so i don't know about the back or other side. in the reviews i saw pictures with scaffolding in that bad area so i think it is just an ongoing process...oh c'mon, buy it!

ReplyDeleteWhat a neat old place, but I can see just from the outside that it needs some work. This is the type of project that will drain a wallet in a NY second! I love all the details on the house, especially that porch.

ReplyDeleteI used to live at Firmstone manor. One of the owners was my grandfather, and the other was his business partner. And though the place was beautiful and rich in history, people have no idea how it was when guests werent there. The woman was not kind to me, and kicked me out for standing up to her. She had broken her foot when I was there last in 2008, and it just fell down hill.
ReplyDeleteThe place though is wonderful. To answer some questions, yes the house needed a lot of work, keep in mind its over 100 years old. But it is a great place to live, minus the negative people.
