    The video will see any more...
    After the collapse of GDR we had in our area many abandoned buildings and factories and I've made many film photos in the 90th...
    Now that's all gone and demolished and redeveloped. Germany is a small and very neat country - - - there is often no space for picturesque old stuff, sigh!

    Love the photo you posted. I am not sure why old abandoned buildings have such appeal, but they sure do. We have traveled quite a lot in Virginia and like it. I am going to spend some time on the links you provided.

    I am just commenting on #1 and #2 right now, and will come back and do a second comment for #3 -#5. Oh my gosh!!!!! First of all, #1 hurt in a way to watch...my husband and I miss our Southern roots so much and though we do live in a cool place and I try to celebrate that, and learn as much as I can about where I live, American South history is in my blood! Russell is the Virginian, and I am from Alabama, and we both miss the history of our places of origin very much. I HAVE to buy that book! The slide show was incredible...every beautiful B&W photo made me so sad, though, as I longed for such places. We used to drive around and explore so much, and our heart is there in those old buildings and in that old countryside! As for #2, some of these places totally intrigued me! I want to know more about them, and hope there is a way to learn more. I feel I will never get to explore like we once did...if I get back to Va. I'll be visiting my Mom on the coast and there won't likely be much time for driving the back roads. You have wrenched my heart right out of my body today, Tanya! :-) Fantastic post! And I haven't even gotten to #3 thru #5! :-)

    Back for my second comment...."encroaching development" is probably my most hated term! It destroys animal habitat and history! These sites were very interesting. Disturbing, though. Boy, I hate to see so many buildings and houses in such horrible shape. So sad! Thanks for posting all this, though. It's been a fascinating part of my day, even if a sad one.
