Vacancy @ the Bee Hotel

I purchased this little bee house recently at Lowe's and yesterday morning I noticed a visitor checking it out (can you see his little bee butt?!)! It is supposed to encourage bees to move in therefore more pollinating your flowers...I think I will pick up another one tomorrow while I work and put it in a different location...

In other news our governor put us on lockdown until June 10th... however we can still go outdoors and enjoy our trails and mountains as long as there aren't more than 10 people...we tend to seek out remote areas when we go out so that still shouldn't be a problem for us...I can still go to work and grocery stores are still open. Also, it's cold today...yuck!

Stay healthy friends!

Dogs on a Hike

On Thursday Ashlyn went on a hike with my oldest son Christian and his girlfriend...she brought her dogs (my granddogs haha) along for the fun...the first picture is Riley and the second pic is Nelson whom she rescued last year...they are both good doggos!

So far here in Virginia we are still able to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. Social distancing is easy to do here with so many trails and wide open spaces...I hope that we are able to continue that...there is something about the sunshine that is good for the soul!

So...I hope this finds everyone healthy! Scary and uncertain times right now isn't it?...here in Virginia it is 8:00 pm and beautiful out....I've been busy most of the day... doing some grocery shopping...cleaning out the freezer and refrigerator and pantry...now it is time for Ozzy and I to sit on the front porch and enjoy this evening!
1)
Right now...I'm sitting in one of those rockers with a nice glass of Chardonnay...Ozzy is on a long leash so he can enjoy the front yard but not run off! My neighbor came out and chatted with me from her porch...I think I will pick her up a plant while I work tomorrow!

2)
Suntrust Bank . Roanoke

Earlier today I had to run to the bank...I always use the drive thru anyway but snapped a picture of this in the front...the new normπŸ™

3)
I saw this license plate today when I stopped to pick up a few things from Walmart earlier... Rhett and Scarlet...Gone With The Wind...love that movie!

4)
Wilson's Warehouse . Buchanan
Nick and I wandered around here one afternoon during the week...I wanted to see the Cherry Trees all in bloom. I posted about this location on Tuesday...it is a very historical spot....see Tuesday's post for more info...

5)
I took this picture of Braden and Dalton not too far into the 2019 football season... seniors...their last year...we had no idea how this would end.
The class of 2020 are missing so much right now...prom... graduation...but it seems so insignificant to those losing their lives πŸ™

I just want things back to regular again....let us never take normal and boring for granted again.

East Main Street . Bedford

Does anyone eat at Hardee's? They aren't really on my radar when I'm thinking I want a hamburger....being from the West Coast we had Carl's Jr...which are the same...I think...I used to like Carl's back in the 80s...maybe even 90s...I don't know what happened to them since!

Today I'm thankful for my employer, Lowe's! I think I have told you that my oldest son Christian works there with me but yesterday they hired Braden and Dalton too! Braden and Dalton work as servers for Cracker Barrell but they have closed in the meantime and only doing to go orders so that leaves the boys without jobs for now...they went to Lowe's, along with a friend yesterday and were hired! Lowe's is considered essential in this time so we are working! I'm so happy to be working alongside with all my boys! Also thankful for our health and I hope you are all doing well too! Our school district is offering free breakfast and lunch to any child in our county so this morning I have volunteered to go to the elementary school that Braden and Dalton went to and help distribute them. We don't need anything right now at the high school I work at so for now we just volunteer where help is needed...kind of a day to day thing so far...

The first person to test positive in Roanoke happened yesterday although they are still waiting for about a hundred test results to come back.

Lasterday

390 Market St . New Castle

Nick took Tuesday off since we have no school currently. We decided to head out to Fenwick Mines for a little hike and see what spring signs we'd see....I was surprised that we didn't see any turtles though! It was nice to be outdoors and away from all of this coronavirus scare for a bit...we were the only ones there except a jogger and his dog...as we were leaving two more families showed up to enjoy...don't worry though, there was enough space for everyone!

On the way home I asked Nick to drive us home through New Castle (not exactly on the way home but he did it haha) because I wanted to see their courthouse...I also saw this cute little market! I'll have to come back by and visit it when all this health crisis is over...you can check out their Facebook page HERE

Tuesday's Treasures - Little Old Truck

I noticed this truck quite recently. It is parked in a car port right down the street from me at a house that is for sale....the house has been for sale for a while and then all of a sudden this truck was there....it reminded me of the one I showed you RIGHT HERE
I don't normally just wander on other people's property so I checked the listing on Zillow and the house was empty so I drove up the drive one afternoon and snapped a few shots....I was a little nervous though haha...I'm glad I did it then because a day or two later there were people mowing and a new car in the drive!

Reynolds Memorial Park

Reynolds Memorial Park . Bedford . VA

I couldn't find out much about this sweet statue other than this little boys' grandfather donated the park in his memory.

We had been out driving last Sunday and picked up subs from Blimpies and found this park to have a picnic...there were a few gazebos and we sat in one...there were trails but we didn't go on them...but there were flowers beginning to bloom!

On Friday our governor closed our schools in Virginia for at least 2 weeks...as a staff member I have a meeting to attend this morning to see what we will be doing...this has gotten a bit scary as it is unlike anything I have ever seen but I'm trying to keep a positive outlook on it all! I hope you all are safe and healthy!

Graffiti on a Train Trestle

Pike Road/Goose Creek Valley Road . Montvale

Sunday was beautiful... excited about daylight savings bringing longer days Nick and I jumped in the car for an adventure! The weather was perfect and not a cloud in the sky...we decided to drive down the road to Montvale then jump on the Blue Ridge Parkway from there...the road through Montvale was super scenic with farms and old log cabins dotting the landscape...I thought we were on Goose Creek Road but when I opened this picture on my phone it said it was Pike Road...when I looked it up it appears I wasn't the only one this has happened to haha and I found THIS LINK
which tells of things to see in the area which I definitely want to check out on another day...also that website looks like an interesting one to peruse.

Lewis & Clark Portrait Sign

1 West Main St . Fincastle . Botetourt County

This Lewis & Clark Portrait Sign is in the front lawn if the courthouse I showed you on Sunday. The sign dedication was held on May 19, 2019. I did not attend but you can read about it HERE in the Botetourt Bee.

The sign commemorates Lewis & Clark's ties to Botetourt County. Clark married Julia Hancock of Fincastle and their marriage license is in the courthouse.

City Daily Photo Theme Day - Municipal Building

1 Main Street . Fincastle . Botetourt County

The theme this month is perfect timing to show you our courthouse. Botetourt County is celebrating it's 250th anniversary! Today was such a pretty day so we drove over to get a picture!

Every year Botetourt hands out little magazines that have a lot of useful and interesting info about the county...you can always pick them up at local businesses at the beginning of each year. This year's copy is special celebrating the county's anniversary... I recently picked my copy up at the library...below are pictures I took from the magazine telling the history of our courthouse: (click on images to make reading easier!)

The Botetourt County Confederate Memorial was installed in 1904:
