The Red, White and Blue

I was reading a CDP blog recently from another country, maybe it was France, I can't remember but they were saying how in their country, people don't wave the flag. You never see it except on a patriotic holiday. It was suprising to me because I just thought everyone displayed their flag.
Here, you see the flag being waved everywhere. Most houses have one as well as businesses, everyday. I have been enjoying the CDP blogs that I visit from other parts of the world, learning the way things are done, so interesting!
This one was taken at the Walton County Board of Education. I had to go there on Tuesday to have some things signed for my daughter. The Board's building is quite impressive and I'll show a picture of that tomorrow.
Here is the flag of the USofA, above the Georgia state flag.

  1. You were right it was the pdp, i saw the post too. It does vary around the world. On my Islamd every 3rd house has a flag along with all important building. It's interesting what you find out about other countries isn't it?

  2. One of my pet peeves is when someone lets a flag stay up when its tattered or torn. I am sure the intent was good when they put it up, but come one, replace it or take it down.

  3. Babooshka, I love reading about the other countries and learning their cultures/traditions, I think that's why I'm so addicted to the CDP...it's like a little vacation in my kitchen, lol.

Jim, that's my husbands pet peeve as well. He was in the Marine Corps so he really notices when a flag shouldn't be flown!

  4. Haha! I can hardly take a photo here without a flag in it, there are so many! There's one in today's photo and will be one in tomorrow's photo.

  5. It's true, in France, we have no flags everywhere. But today is a good day for flags in France because we celebrate the end of the WWII...

  6. I'm with Alex, not many flags in France, especially on particular houses (one or two on 14th July...), you can see French flag only on official buildings like townhouses or le Palais de l'Elysée! It doesn't mean we don't like our country, just another way of thinking...

  7. I like flags and often I search for different and interesting angle of view to capture this beautiful white and blue image.
I think Americans use their flag more than Europeans.
    Have a nice weekend.

  8. From all my travels around the world, I think Americans fly more flags than anyone.

  9. "Louis", living as he does near the People's Republic of Bereserkely can tell you that it is very difficult to find either a national or state flag there. Berkeley wouldn't let its firemen fly the U.S. flag from their fire trucks after 9/11 in honor of the NY firemen who died fighting the fires in the twin towers.

Also, having lived in France, "Louis" can attest to what Alex wrote. However, if you look at old photos, les français fly plenty of flags with the announcemtent of the German surrender.

  11. In the UK there is some stupid Law that means you can only show the Union Jack on public buildings and it has to be on the pole nearest Buckingham Palace! They don't arrest you if you do display it though!

  12. I am feeling more patriotic already! : ) I agree, so many people here put out a flag every day, and remove it each evening. I only see them on public buildings when I travel.

  13. Public city, state and federal buildings always have flags flying here in Seattle, but private homes and businesses, not so much unless it's the 4th of July or memorial day. It is fun to travel the world via the web and learn different customs.
