The Circus

The circus was in Salem this weekend. My husband was given tickets at work. I'm not a huge fan of the circus because of the treatment of the animals, but we all had a fun time although when we saw the elephants come out and do their tricks, my daughter and I felt so bad for them. They actually looked so sad and when one walked past, I could have sworn I saw a tear rolling out of his eye. My daughter, who is 14, turned to me upset and said she thought the elephant was crying.

The camels were cute and the dogs performed well and looked happy to be there but I couldn't get past the sad look in the elephants eyes.

This photo was taken during intermission. We went out and the kids got funnel cakes, cotton candy and snow cones, all for an outrageous $5.00 a piece! In the photo is my daughter Ashlyn, my husband Nick, and my boys, Braden (wearing black tshirt), Dalton (blue tshirt) and Christian.

  3. cela dépend tellement des cirques, je connais des cirques où les animaux sont très bien traites..Sinon, c'est vrai que c'est triste...et puis 5$ c'est vraiment de l'arnaque.

it depends so circuses, I know circuses where animals are treated very well .. Otherwise, it is true that it is sad ... and then $ 5 is really being scammed.

  9. It is very sad what you said about the elephants. Maybe the watery eyes is a natural thing though, because I have noticed that everytime I have seen an elephant up close. We can only hope.

You have a beautiful family. Your daughter is very pretty, but looks to be older than 14. :-) Your son's are cuties. The two youngest one look full of mischief. :-)

  11. Circus' with animals are not allowed in the UK anymore, which I think is a good thing. Its more impressive to watch human entertainment as they push themselves to the limit.

Despite the sad elephants (and expensive snacks!) I hope you all had a great family evening out :)

  12. Oh I think a circus is so important in your growing up years. I still love a circus. A friend of mine has promised to take me to the circus school in France. Oh sometimes I think we become too PC and spoil the fun of others. I grew up on the romanticisim of running away to the circus. Now didn't Caroline of Monaco do just that? Or was it her sister?

  13. I'm with you about circus animals. I didn't realize circuses still had animals -- Elaine over at Willets Daily Photo mentioned a circus there recently, too.

    You have a beautiful family!

And thanks for commenting on my blog today! :-)

  14. Nice to see a photo of the whole (well almost) good-looking family! Your daughter is so sweet to care so much for the well-being of the elephant.
