DeJarnette Peery Asylum

(click photo to enlarge)

Staunton. I really wanted to get close but there were so many "no trespassing" signs that we didn't. I had to zooooom in just to get the name of the place to research it when I got home. Found out though in my research, that people just disregard the "no trespassing" signs and wander around taking pictures....hmmmmm....I think this calls for another trip to Staunton ;)

You can read a little info on the hospital HERE.

It's been a horrible past few days. Remember when I told you Braden was sick on Friday and couldn't play in their first basketball game Saturday? Well, Dalton and I then came down with it. I guess it was the flu. We camped out in the living room with bottles of Gatorade and Netflix on tv to pull us through. I think we are finally well enough to return back to school today. The flu is no fun! And so much for that 365 Project. I didn't even make it a month lol...

  2. When I was a child, if I did not do as my mother asked, she would threaten to "send you to Staunton" ostensibly because I was exhibiting "crazy" behavior and needed to be locked up. I don't know how that threat might have affected other children, but I would not visit Staunton until I was an adult in my 30s.

  6. you & me both - i love that place. as a kid there were some real stories. supposedly it is haunted. full of asbestos. one reason they will not knock it down. it is terrible for the environment. not sure what will be the next step for the place. makes you wonder??! had a lady i worked with that worked there & she said rats would crawl inside the walls. ( :

sorry to hear you are not well. feel better soon.

  11. Fairly informative post. Never considered that it was this easy after all. I had spent a very great cope of time looking for someone to describe this topic clearly and you're the only 1 that ever did that. Cheers to you! Keep it up

  14. One doesn't hear the word, "asylum," much these days. A very interesting post. Looks like the place has had some good times and bad times - hopefully, it can continue to provide mental health services children. We need such places!

Glad that you're on the road to recovery!

  18. So sorry that the family has been laid low by the flu. I had a flu shot and am hopeful that it will keep the flu away this winter. Now they need to develop a back pain shot. I can barely stand today . . .
