Our World Tuesday - Hillcrest House @ JMU

Hillcrest House . James Madison University

Most of Ashlyn's classes are in this old section of campus. She thinks this is the prettiest section of JMU and knew I would too so this is where she showed us around. This is only 1 of the couple of pics I was able to get on campus (camera/battery issues, yesterday's post)...no worries...I'll just make another trek up one day when school is out and have her give us another tour, this time I'll be loaded down with extra batteries, ha! JMU is only about an hour and a half away so Ashlyn is home quite often so it doesn't make college life as hard on me :)

A little about Hillcrest House: "Built for JMU's first president, Julian Burruss, and his wife in 1914, Hillcrest served as the home of JMU presidents for more than 60 years. The house was renovated in 1949 and refurbished in 1967. Hillcrest was retired as the president's residence in 1978 and has been the home of the Honors Program since its inception." Taken from HERE and CLICK HERE for the history of Bluestone, used all over campus, including Hillcrest House.

  1. Tanya,
that was neat to see and I just finished reading the previous post about the Glow A Rama....and that lady SHOULD HAVE HONORED THOSE TICKETS...with no hesitation!! Isnt that why they donate those to the kids?? As a reward/incentive program? Why in the WORLD did she act like that? Especially if y'all were paying for others to play. That just irks me

  5. Looks like a really lovely house. It's always fun to visit a campus. My granddaughter is looking at Eureka College in Illinois (President Reagan's alma mater), and it is really expensive.

  6. So nice to have Ashlyn so close Tanya, I know when Aimee moved out last year I was mega happy she bought a house just five minutes away :) mind you she is 30 haha! I had battery probs myself today, in that when I took my first shot I realised I had not taken the battery off the recharge grrrrr! You might have only taken a few shots but this oneshows how charming Hillcrest House is.

  10. This looks more like a villa than a school! I had battery problems once: now I always have two spares...

  13. I have been there! JMU is very pretty! Drive around at night with the lights, and looking into the modern glass buildings. It makes beautiful pics. I am going to post them sometime in the near future.

  16. How pretty! Both my kids attended college right here in their hometown (FSU), so I was lucky.

  17. I'd never heard of bluestone. It does look like a lovely campus. I'm glad your daughter isn't too far from home. As the mother of a daughter, I know that's a blessing.

  18. Sounds like a great campus, Tanya!
I love places of higher education, where I would stay the rest of my life, if money wasn't an object :)
    Have a Beautiful Day!
    Peace :)

  20. That is a fine building. (And running out of battery or memory card, or a camera malfunction, is one of a photographer's greatest fears, isn't it?)
