Lots more gators, same place as #1 just up a little further...lots of white birds in the trees too...Herons? Egrets? I don't know!

This is a police vehicle. I know you can't tell from the picture but the officer standing in the back is carrying an assault rifle. In front of this police vehicle is a military vehicle with a bunch of military personnel also carrying assault rifles. This was a familiar scene. We'd see them just driving around or stopped on the side of the road, standing next to their vehicle holding assault rifles. Now mind you, this is Ixtapa, a major tourist area. One day while at the beach, the one I showed you with the hammocks?...anyways, on that day a police vehicle pulled up to the next restaurant down and about 4 or 5 officers jumped out carrying their rifles...it was a bit intimidating...they stood talking to some people for a while then got back in and drove away...I honestly didn't know if there was going to be a shoot out or what! Can you imagine if our police were that armed? It is very unsettling...I wanted to get a better picture of the police/military but I also didn't want to get shot so this is the only one I got...

5)
What in God's creation is this thing? I found this on a ledge at our hotel. Is it from the sea? Did a bird drop it? Is it a ginormous bug? So happy this was the only one I saw and it was dead! I think I'd freak out if I saw this thing moving!

There's my 5 this week! I hope you will play along! Post 5 randoms and link back up! Visit others! Have a great weekend :)

I'm also linking up with Amy's 5 On Friday this week!

  1. All very interesting pictures and stories. EEeewwww, that THING. And just the not KNOWING. Cue the music from The Twilight Zone. I found the alligator, but it took awhile. A fun picture. I don't think I would be able to stay somewhere that had police with assault weapons everywhere you look. You are brave! Between that and the unknown THING, they would have had to carry me out.

  2. I have no idea what that bug-thing is! We used to go to Mexico often, but I got spooked by all the horror stories I was hearing and seeing the Federales armed like this with random roadside checks. Just too risky, although I hear things are getting better.

  3. Looks like part of a lobster.

  4. Huh! There are scary creatures on the earth... But I'm thinking too, it's only a scrap-piece of whatever and maybe it's falling down from a bird.
I'm grateful to live in a State without police and army presence, but for many people of the world it's
the alldays "normality" (I think about all the refugees - )
    Great water blue!
    Enjoy your weekend

  8. I agree...I think it looks like a part of a dead lobster. Loved your shots but the idea of those big guns scares me to death. It was like that when we last traveled. So frightening and we are headed that way over here. Congrats to you for sponsoring Willy Nilly. I will have to start participating in support of my Neighboring friend. Great shots. And loved Tom's. genie

  9. The beach is worth going to, but the rest scares me... alligators, guns, and weird creatures! I think the older I get, the more timid I get! In N. Ireland, a decade ago, we were used to seeing soldiers with guns patrolling the streets so its easy to take peace for granted.

  10. We're almost to the same point with the police here...police departments have received Homeland Security money to beef up their presence and they've bought armored personnel carriers, heavy-duty weapons, spy cameras, etc. Not a good thing for a democracy. That "bug" or whatever looks quite icky!

  21. Very interesting shell fish creature. I did see the alligator in the first shot. Mexico is a very dangerous place nowadays.

  22. I'm sure the wonderful holiday resort by the sea outweighed some of the more scary aspects you saw and photographed. The seaview looks fab. Hope you're well and settling back in your home surroundings.

  30. I almost missed seeing that alligator! Glad I was only taking a virtual tour. On our last trip into Mexico (a senior citizen's group tour) we were on a tour bus which was stopped by a bunch of soldiers who all looked like teenagers, equipped with assault rifles. Very intimidating. One guy stood in fron facing us, rifle ready. They took all the luggage out of the bus and put it out on the grass. They asked a few random passengers to open their bags. Found nothing but all us old folks were left to put all the luggage back in the bus.

  31. You've had a very lively week. And I enjoyed the comments almost as much as your post. The sea creature/bug/part of a shellfish thingy certainly stirred us up.

  32. Great photos - at the same time frightening too. Oh no - I hate bugs.. And wouldn't want to meet an alligator... Fortunately we don't have any huge bugs in Finland..

    Enjoy your new week!

  33. One evening at Hilton Head, we found a roosting area for egrets, herons, etc. It looked very similar to this, water surrounded by dense trees. They were all arriving at the same time, it seemed. I guess one might feel safe (or not) with all that armament! No clue as to the ID of #5. I'm not seeing the little box to link up. What am I missing? I hadn't seen one lately, that's why I emailed, thinking I'd missed the linking time frame.

    1. I don't know what the problem is lately with the "simply linked" link ups...it happens to me too, on my own blog and others that i link up with that uses it...sometimes if i just log out and return it comes back...i am sorry, i know it is frustrating!

  34. Wow what a trip you are having. The Police story was scary, I can't imagine living in a country like that (but it may come to that someday) - Oh my gosh that last thing was so creepy looking. - Sorry I wasn't able to make WN5 this past week. Hopefully this week.
