A Doggie Fountain

Wasena Park . Roanoke

Notice anything different about the fountain? There's 3 parts, one for little people, one for big people and one for our furry friends...ignore the weirdo...he kept following us around ;)

Today I am thankful for animal lovers like myself! Yesterday morning on the way home after taking the boys to school, I was driving down a country road, 2 lanes, 1 in each direction...I noticed the oncoming car had stopped, then I noticed a deer had just ran across the road and on the other side a young deer was still trying to decide if it should cross, it would start, then turn around and run a few steps in the other direction until finally it gained the courage to catch up with its momma...we both sat there patiently watching and waiting and then drove on, smiled at each other and waved...that pretty much made my day!

Keep On The Sunny Side

502 Mountain Avenue SW . Roanoke . 24016

This cute little market has been in business since 1929! We were just driving by when the sign caught my eye and I snapped a quick photo from the truck window. Getting this post ready I read that the owner just passed away last year and they were worried the store would close...a Go Fund Me page was started and money was collected and now the store has been able to remain open! I learned all that from THIS news article...so happy to hear it won't be closing.

I showed you the mural on the front of this storage space last week RIGHT HERE and I told you I would come back and show you the other side! This one was done by the same artist, Scott "Toobz" Noel. The title is "Humanufacturing" and the concept is "small and large business working together to build for a better future."

Ghent Grace Brethren Church
I've shown you another "Jesus Saves" sign on the rescue mission and was so excited when I saw this one! I wonder if there are anymore around Roanoke?

2)
A pretty, old house along Memorial Avenue

3)
People out enjoying the sunshine...

4)
Stopped for a beer and snacks at The Green Goat and well yes, I did take a picture of the ladies room ;) wouldn't you have? Look how cute it is! I love that goat picture! I wonder if the men's was just as cute? Hmmmm....

5)
I can never resist dogwood blooms and old brick houses with chippy balconies!

Spring Break & Pizza

Downtown Roanoke

Today I am thankful for spring break! My goodness it felt like it was never going to get here! The photo above was taken on Tuesday. I took the boys downtown for their favorite slice of pizza from Benny's and then visited Nick in his new office...yesterday Nick took the day off and we all went to lunch and just drove around Buchanan...found a neat little old road that had a few abandoned houses along it. I'll show pics of those later! Linking up with Michelle's Thankful Thursday

Murray's Mill

Murray's Mill was built in 1913 in Hickory, NC. We went down there a few Saturday's ago. I have posted a few pics since then so it may look familiar to you but I hadn't given you the "official" tour till now ;)

Next week I will show you the General Store, which is right across from the mill. For more info on the mill VISIT HERE and I am linking with Tom's Tuesday's Treasures today...Have a great day!

Murray's Mill . Hickory . NC

1) First of all I want to apologize for being such a terrible blog friend lately...I mean to visit all of you, I really do...time is just getting away from me...on the bright side, today is our last day of school and we have a week plus 1 day off for spring break...yippeee...hallelujah!

2) While Nick was away last weekend, Braden and I (Dalton was at his girlfriend's house) watched Patriot's Day about the Boston Marathon bombing...how do you say that it was a great movie without sounding heartless about the reason the movie exists? It was well done, so sad...

3) On Monday I went to a funeral with Ashlyn. One of her friends died in a motorcycle accident last week. He was only 25...

4) Ashlyn left for Virginia Beach on Wednesday and will be back on Sunday. It's her annual trip for the FCCLA conference...unfamiliar with what FCCLA is? Well I've blogged about it quite a few times HERE haha...
and Christian left this morning for NYC with his girlfriend and her family. We haven't been there yet so he's pretty excited and I am too, for him!

5) As I get this post ready on Thursday night (to schedule for midnight Friday) Nick just came in and told me we attacked Syria...not sure what else to say here...

Ending on a somber note, that's my 5 this week and I sure hope you will join in! Post 5 randoms, anything you want, pictures, updates, recipes, news...link back, visit others when time allows! Thank you so much for your visit and have a wonderful weekend :)

A Wedding @ Bunker Hill

Hickory . NC

This small group was setting up a wedding...just down the trail a bit is the beautiful, historic old Bunker Hill Covered Bridge...I thought that is where they were going but no, they stopped right there and set up on the little footbridge to the left...maybe it had a special significance to them that I just didn't understand ;)

On Monday I had to go take Dalton back to the dr's so he could look at his thumb and on this Thankful Thursday I am thankful, Dalton is too, that he was able to get the "all clear" and have the cast removed! (to those who don't know, Dalton broke his thumb almost a month back)...it has been very difficult for this active/athletic teen to have to sit out of sports for a month! Water Flow

Murray's Mill . Hickory . NC

3 more school days till spring break...just trying to keep my head above water this week!

p.s. I wish I could figure out how to photograph water where it looks so smooth coming over the rocks...know what I mean? How do you do that? Advice welcome!

Nature Takes Over

Hickory . NC

While wandering around the property at Murray's Mill we came across this old bridge and truck. The bridge had been moved to be replaced by a new one. I guess this spot looked as good as any to trash it but I have to admit I was pretty excited to run across it! ;)
