Rural Thursday - Blog Hop # 6

The weather was perfect yesterday so when the boys got home from school I loaded them and Ozzy up and we ran over to Greenfield to do some walking. This is my MOST FAVORITE place to walk around and it's so close to home which makes it super convenient. Braden and Dalton were less than excited though since they wanted to go to their friend's house to play but I said "too bad, so sad, get a bottle of water and let's go"!

I've done several posts on this area, the slave cabins, the kitchen, the cute little house that is still standing and the cemeteries that are there...all with walking trails meandering through many pretty acres.

The photo today is of the boys, Dalton holding Ozzy, and Braden annoyed with me, at the slave cabins. If you want to see more photos of this area with the cabins, kitchen and house, just do a search for Greenfield in the search bar at the upper left of this blog.

I did find some new info that I hadn't seen before on the area which tells more about the buildings and a map...scroll down to page 71 for the good stuff. Site Inventory of Greenfield

Linking up with Rural Thursday :)

  1. So funny! I don't think Braden liked you much at that moment! I'd love to walk around that area! I like the term, "Blog Hop," too!

  2. My Lincoln relatives and we are all related to President Lincoln, owned slaves. I got the will and it describes who got which slave, their ages and their sex. I never thought about it before but it would make an interesting post.

  3. It does seem like a fun place to walk around, after reading your posts and Di's posts. I've only been there for all day very long boring state trainings back when I used to do juvenile probation. Walking around sounds a lot more fun ;-)

  4. They do seem a bit 'not again, mom' but they'll appreciate it someday! I've never seen any slave quarter or anything... I'd love to see more, Tanya!

  5. Bet they grow up to be photographers just like their mom! Probably won't even wait to grow up - they will want cameras in their hands!

  8. The boys definitely don't look too happy to be there! But I like the look of that rustic cabin.

PS: I have not yet seen Midnight in Paris, but it's on my list. And I think we all romanticize living in the "old days", but I think the "modern times" are probably better. :)

  21. Oh I love the shot of the boys... and Braden putting his head down makes the shot. Dalton looks great in the back with Ozzy... good shot ... Its good to see that its getting warmer in VA. I need to start taking notes of all the places I want to go in VA when I get back. Have a great weekend Tanya =)
