This is the Buchanan Theater in Buchanan, Va. This cute little old theater was built in the early 1900's. I took the boys there to see Puss in Boots not too long back. Tickets were only $5 for adults and popcorn, candy and cokes were only a dollar. I noticed on their website though that they had a slight price increase starting June 1 by just a dollar so it's still a real deal for a night out! The movie Red Tails is going to be playing there in a couple of weeks so I think I'll take the boys to see that one. It was something they had been wanting to see but we just never got around to it.
Linking up with Rural Thursday :)
Love the old theaters. We have one here, but it doesn't look nearly as appealing as this one. Old drive-in theaters are neat to see, too, if you can find one.
ReplyDeleteme too! there are 3 drive-ins nearby, within an hour of us...how lucky is that?!
DeleteVisiting via Rural Thursday Blog Hop. What a great photo of the old theater. A fun place to visit!
ReplyDeleteit really is a neat place to watch a movie!
DeleteThere sure aren't many old theaters left. The one in my old home town was turned into a store and then it was torn down. They had so much character compared to the theaters of today.
ReplyDeleteoh that's sad that they tore it down :(
DeleteOh fun! That's (sadly) a great deal on tickets! Have you ever done any of the drive ins in the area?
ReplyDeletenot yet but it's on my list eventually..i think there's 3 within an hour of us? one near the lake, one in lynchburg or lexington, i forget and i think there's one near blacksburg?
DeleteGreat old theater! How fun that it is still in use and with such great prices, especially on the snacks!
ReplyDeleteoh i know and the popcorn is made in an old timey popcorn popper!
DeleteI love these old theatres. There are too many big box stores, too.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Cottage Country!

ReplyDeleteNice to see a small town theatre still making a go of it.
ReplyDeleteI love that little town. When my daughter lived in NC, it was our halfway meeting spot.
ReplyDeleteLove these old buildings/businesses! So glad it is still lively.
ReplyDeleteLove these old theaters. I find it very sad the wonderful one in town is sitting unused most of the time. They rent it out a few times a year for special events but most of the town never gets to go inside.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit to my Amish country post this week. I appreciate your continued support.
Loving the processing on this shot. and a really nice story to go with it. its looking in remarkable condition for over 100 years old.

ReplyDeleteAn adorable little theater. How great that it's still in operation.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing at Rural Thursdays this week, Tanya.
Even with the price hike, a family can still afford to go to this movie theater. Wish there were more like it! A real find.
ReplyDeleteOh, my! I linked back to your blog and am so glad I did! Love it! I worked in Virginia and loved every minute of living there. Your photos bring back a lot of good memories. I'll be following you. . . .
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect theater! Don't you wish all the modern ones would have such character?
ReplyDeleteLove those old theaters - lots of childhood memories!
ReplyDeleteI must say the prices sound exceptional for this day and age.
Buchanan looks like my kind of place!
ReplyDeleteI have a Buchanan tartan kilt somewhere. Now I think I'll be compulsively looking for it!
