I'm going to show you more from the Go Outside Festival...come on now...

1)
Both of the boys did this...bleh...I did not...

2)
This guy had crazy good balance! Anyone could try this!

3)
There was also fly fishing lessons...so much more elaborate than the first one back in 2011, which you can see HERE

4)
Some yummy food trucks...I like this one...the name is Wake and Bacon...I waited for that lady to move so I could get a pic of the whole name but she just wouldn't do it...

5)
There's even paddle board lessons!

Remember I showed you the jumping dogs and the LOVE sign but there's still so much more to this festival! It really is one of my favorites!

That's my 5 this week and I hope you will join in too! Post 5 randoms, link back and visit others! Have a great weekend!

Just got back from a football game...getting this ready and hitting the hay...the boys normally have to be to school at 8 on Friday's for their football breakfast but for some reason I said I'd take them in earlier so they can meet up with friends to play basketball...sounded ok at the moment...thinking I might regret that in the morning haha

LOVE

Roanoke Go Outside Festival

I LOVE when I find these LOVE signs! :)

Today I am thankful for my daughter and our friendship! Last Friday night she came to watch the boys' football game with me and we just have the best time together. I was telling Nick that I really enjoy her company and would still love to hang out with her even if she wasn't my daughter!

Purple Haze

Greenbrier East High School . Lewisburg . West Virginia

A couple of weeks ago we traveled to West Virginia for a football game and this was the sky during half time...it cast such a pretty glow everywhere which I wasn't able to pick up in the picture but it was pretty amazing...makes me think of these lyrics..."almost Heaven, West Virginia...Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River..." ok, try not to sing that for the rest of the day haha :)

By the way, we won, 45-26! Our boys are undefeated so far...2 games left!

Dog Days

At the Roanoke Go Outside Festival

Last weekend we attended the Go Outside Festival in Roanoke. I don't think we've missed a year since it has started and each year it just gets better and better...people are allowed to bring their dogs so that's a bonus for me! In the picture above you can see everyone watching a guy do tricks on his bike but me? I'm watching the dogs :)

Unfortunately we don't bring our Ozzy to this as I think the crowds would make him nervous...he doesn't like strangers coming up to him so we keep him safe at home...Today I am thankful for my quiet mornings with my sweet Ozzy...after we get everyone fed and out the door, we have some time in the morning to hang out before I take off...in fact right now he's sitting beside me napping as I get this post ready :)

1489 Murray's Mill Rd . Catawba . NC

Back in April we took a little road trip down to NC, specifically to go to Jack In The Box for some tacos (it's an acquired taste...something we grew up with and miss at times)...anyways, we visited this neat place after lunch...come on, I'll show you around!

circa 1890

Braden on the left, Dalton on the right and Nick in the middle ;)

Love the rusty Pepsi cooler and those green doors!

A loooong counter! They have done a great job stocking the shelves with things from the past...also the tin cans have old labels attached...the cans are empty though!

Aren't those bins neat?

Cha-ching

Looking down from upstairs...

Looking up from downstairs ;)

All this exploring has made us thirsty!

I've shown you pics from the mill which is across the street and some other sights around the property Right Here

I'm a day late but I'm linking up with my pal Tom and his Tuesday's Treasures

For more info on Murray's Mill Historic District you can visit their website HERE

Dale Avenue Community Mural

Dale Avenue . Southeast Roanoke

This neat mural was designed by North Carolina artist Brenda Councill and drawn by local artist Scott "Toobz" Noel and painted by volunteers! I snapped this quick photo while waiting in the drive-thru yesterday at Arby's ;)

I came home and Googled for more info and found THIS news story which tells a little more about it like the fact that Toobz modeled it after the tree that is in front of the fire station right across the street, which I didn't know till now...So, I need to go back and get a pic of the tree and see if I can fit more of the mural into a picture as it is quite long!

The name "Toobz" might sound familiar to some of you because he's quite a busy muralist having created many around the area which I've shown you some HERE

Shoe Store

109 Campbell Ave SW . Roanoke

This cool sign belongs to the Bush-Flora Shoe Co. They are one of the oldest retailers in the Roanoke area celebrating over 100 years of business! The company started out in 1928 but moved to this location in 1951...although not at this location anymore, which is now for sale, they are now located in the Towers Mall. This building started out in 1910 as Vest Furniture, then has been a hardware store, women's clothing store, department store and antique store. I found THIS interesting site which shows the history of tenants plus pictures!

Today I'm thankful for the beauty around me with the changing of the season! All the trees are really starting to pop! Although our temps have been in the 80's and humid, feels more like summer, which I'm also thankful for haha...I want to get out this weekend and see some pretty fall colors :) Linking up with Michelle's Thankful Thursday & Signs, Signs

Black & White Wednesday

1514 Grandin Rd SW . Roanoke

"I loved growing up in a little town. I loved knowing people. I loved going to the store and running into people. I loved going into the store and having forgotten my bag, saying, 'Charge it, put it on my bill.' I loved going to the gas station and saying, 'Pete, fill it up.' I loved that continuity of life." Steeple

Old SW Roanoke

At last Friday night's football game something unusual and sad happened. A fan in the stands suffered a heart attack and passed away during the game. Today I am thankful for the community I live in and am thankful that my boys are being coached by Coach Harless and learning values and life lessons from him. HERE'S a news clip of the story and how Coach and the team reacted ...Rest in Peace Mr. B

Old SW Roanoke

See that thingy up on the top of the house? Isn't it neat? It was hard to get a good view with all these darn power lines and I didn't want to appear to be a stalker by standing right in front of their house to get a pic haha...have a great day! It's feeling like fall around here...a little brisk start this morning!

St. Mark's Lutheran Church

St. Mark's Lutheran Church . 1008 Franklin Road SW . Roanoke . 24016

On Saturday Braden and I went to visit Ashlyn...it was a suprise...she didn't know we were coming...luckily she was home!

After talking for a while we decided to take her little dog Riley out for a walk...there's a lot of beautiful old churches in her neighborhood, like the one above, although that one isn't too old...the original was much older, dating back to the 1800's... HERE's a picture from 1956 where it is being torn down on Campbell Ave...I believe I read that the location on Franklin Road was built in 1956. Do you think that is the same steeple? I can't tell and don't recall reading that they used it...

To the side of the church is this nice resting spot with a fountain and lots of shade trees...the fountain sounds relaxing!

And Emma is out here too to keep an eye on things! I couldn't find anything else about the sculpture, other than her name is Emma and the artist's website is HERE...I feel like there's a story about Emma...or should be!

It was a nice day spending time with my oldest and second to the youngest :)

City Daily Photo Theme Day - Sensual

Along the Roanoke River Greenway in Wasena Park . Roanoke

I snapped this picture back in April because the sign kind of made us laugh...evidently Norfolk Southern doesn't want you to have a "sensual" experience haha...

Happy Monday!
