Grandin Village . Roanoke

1) The last 2 weeks have been crazy busy! Ashlyn is moving out and we've been looking at apartments...there sure is a lot of junk out there...places that smell like 100 years of cigarette smoke, ick! We stopped looking at apartment buildings and started looking at old houses in the historic areas that have been made into apartments. Those seemed better with nice neighborhoods that she could walk her dog around and be close to downtown. Well yesterday after looking at a lot, and I do mean A LOT of junky, dirty places, we found it! It's a cute little 2 bedroom in the Old Southwest Neighborhood of Roanoke...she goes in and does her paperwork this morning...I hope she will be very happy there!

2) On Wednesday I took the boys to the movies. They wanted to see Cars 3 was pretty cute! We laughed a lot, which is always good!

3) Have you heard of these "rock clubs"? Well the city that I am from, Santee has one and I've been following on Facebook. The objective is that you paint rocks, hide them around your city and then people find them and post a picture on Facebook in the group. It makes a lot of people happy and it looked like such fun so I created one for our county here. You can look at both groups to get an idea: Santee Rocks & Botetourt Rocks ...Botetourt Rocks is just a baby, started a couple of weeks ago so I hope it takes off! Maybe you might like to start a group where you live?

4) A new brewery just came to town, Ballast Point. They are from San Diego so it's kind of neat having a little bit of "back home" way out here! We went to check it out this week and tried their California Burrito. If you know us, you know that we miss our Mexican food and there's nothing like a Carne Asada Burrito from a SoCal taco shop! A "California Burrito" is a Carne Asada Burrito with French Fries inside...not my favorite, I prefer just a regular Carne Asada Burrito (no fries)...anyways, it was pretty good...not taco shop, this was more restaurant style and Nick and I both prefer taco shop style...we split it in half because we didn't have high expectations as to it being just like we are used to...and like I said, it was alright, well better than was pretty tasty and definitely better than any Mexican food here...but I wish it was a taco shop style and at $14 for 1 burrito, that is a bit high! We will be back though.

5) The Salem Fair is back in town...might take the boys tonight...I missed it last year because we had just gotten back from Mexico and I just felt so sick so Nick took the boys and dropped them off so they didn't miss out but I hated missing the fair!

That's my 5 this week! Hope you play along too! Post 5 randoms, link back and visit others! Have a great weekend!

  1. Good morning!
    Thanks for hosting!
I used to eat chicken burritos a lot, but here lately I have discovered a place that makes a chicken soup with Mexican spices that is very good. It has a lot of chicken, rice and chunks of avocado in it - Yummy!
    Have a great week-end!

  2. This is the Most Fun Post. Of Course you'd search out the Best Living Space . . and, it will begin a Bright New Life -

There are plenty of folk around here decorating rocks - isn't it nifty how we find ways to connect with each other?

Taco Shops - I'm from Southern California - when "Authentic Mexican" opens here - I visit - and get homesick for what I was accustomed to . . . I get it.

Thank you for Willy Nilly. Good weekend to you.

  3. I have heard of these rock clubs- it's a different kind of geo-caching!

  4. ...and who doesn't love the fair!

  5. Fun post. Congrats on Ashlyn's new place. I lived in New Mexico for 23 years ... really miss green chili! I can feel your pain -- ha! Hope Ballast Point helps and that the beer is good. Happy Friday and thanks for hosting!

  6. Congrats to the find. And the Rock Club is a great idea, maybe, I should make a group here for our town?
Have fun at Salem Fair and a great weekend

  7. I want a picture of the apartment! It sounds lovely. I also request pictures of the fair if you go. Is it like a Carnival? The Rock Club is so cool!! And it will make people HAPPY! That's a lot of money for one burrito. I hope it came with lots of sauces and toppings.

  8. i can not imagine looking for an apartment ... that would be nuts!! i so wanna see Cars 3 ... there a several movies that i can wait. wish there was another way to see them other than the theater ... wish a company would do that ... in the comfort of your own home ... prefer it over the noisy theaters. ( :

  9. Oh what memories you are making, finding the place for her to live! Sad too as they move on. My son loved the California burrito when he lived in San Diego.

  10. You made me hungry for some good Mexican food, and we just had some yesterday! I'm from California too and it seems no one does it like Cali does it. I can't imagine putting French fries in a burrito! What the...??? Thanks for the work you do hosting this party. It is appreciated.

  11. I am so missing Mexican food right now. We moved to Germany a month ago and haven't found any yet though I hear that there is a restaurant in Frankfurt. Need to go find it! have a great week!
