Last week Nick and I picked up some lunch and took it over to this park and have a picnic. This is a great park with miles and miles of trails but what I loved most of all was this old barn. I tried and tried to find info on it but really only found that it is known as the “1936 Red Barn” or the “County Farm Barn”.
“According to a Virginia DHR architectural survey form, the red barn is a local landmark in the area and was constructed at a cost of $5,000. It was considered a modern, “model” structure. On the property, livestock was raised, sold and boarded from many area family farms, cereal grains sold and significant purchases made from local businesses.”

I did find some neat links though!

Wow, and it even looks like it has a tin roof!
ReplyDeleteIt looks in good shape.
ReplyDeleteA pretty view of a nice looking barn. It looks great with the clouds passing over it.

ReplyDeleteA barn for $5000 - that sounds pretty good to me
ReplyDeleteSo, this was built in 1936? It's a beautiful barn and has stood the test of time.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful barn! Here a county farm was a sort of poorhouse operation where indigent and disabled people were able to live and contribute to their sustenance by working on the farm.
ReplyDeleteGreat barn and gorgeous sky!
