"Just touching that old tree was truly moving to me because when you touch these trees, you have such a sense of the passage of time, of history. It's like you're touching the essence, the very substance of life." Kim Novak

Willy Nilly Friday 5 No. 33 - Snowed In

School was already closed Monday and Tuesday for President's Day and conferences but we ended up with snow days for Wed, Thurs and Friday. I'm going to take the boys to Greenridge to swim for a couple of hours. They also want to play some basketball in the gym. I do have to say that their website is terrible. Very confusing for people, non-members, trying to find out the hours for the indoor pool and the basketball court and rates...keep it simple. I don't know about you but I hate having to spend too much time on a website just to find out the basics.

Now that that is off my chest, time for some Willy Nilly's!

1) Yes, we ended up with about a foot or so of snow which basically shut us down BUT now looking at the forecast, we may get more on Saturday...right now it is saying 100% chance of snow/sleet and 3-7 inches...I know I wanted winter and snow but ok, I'm done...I have to take my vehicle in for a few things this week! Stop already!!

2) Grey's Anatomy? Who watches? Ashlyn got me hooked...we started watching on Netflix and now I can't get enough.

3) I made Creole Chicken W/Kale this week and it was super yummy...I used boneless/skinless chicken breast and for the creole seasoning, my grocery store, Kroger, sells their own brand so I just used that...have to say the kale was the star!

4) Watched St. Vincent which was good, but sad...who expects to cry during a Melissa McCarthy movie? Not I.

5) Also watched Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day ...super cute...made me laugh!

Now it is your turn...post 5 randoms, link back and visit others....oh, and have a super weekend!!

One more thing before you go! Will you please vote for me? You can vote once a day and they do make you register by just entering your email and a password...I guess that is just to keep you from voting more than once daily! Thank you!!

In the midst of our snowstorm on Monday...today and tomorrow we are having record breaking lows...they say it hasn't been this cold since the 1800's! Wow, crazy! School has been cancelled...right now it is a balmy 5 degrees with a high of 11...thankful we are tucked inside! Linking with Good Fences

And....can I bug you to vote for me again please! Even if you have already voted, you can vote once a day ;)

Snow Day

It happened! It snowed! It started snowing Monday and must have snowed all day and night. We ended up with about a foot. We were already out of school Monday and Tuesday but today is a real bonafide snow day!
It's been a while since Ozzy has seen snow...he's wondering what it is I think...He gets hyper in the snow!

I'm happy now and we can now move forward to spring ;)

Please vote for me! Voting is open till March 6th (I think!)

Rubbish Tuesday - Andrew Johnston House

Andrew Johnston House . Pearisburg

Terrible photo but I wanted to show you the house since it was in the mural from yesterday. We pulled up and noticed the house would be open for tours in about an hour. I got out to walk around and take some pics when Nick said "Let's just go see something else and come back when it opens." ....so I only snapped this ONE terrible picture before leaving and then we never made it back. Nick was in a hurry to go see Dismal Falls that I showed you HERE ....anyways, this house was built in 1829 and is the oldest brick house in Giles County...For more info on the house Click Here ...linking with Rubbish Tuesday .....oh, we got our snow yesterday/last night...about a foot of it! Finally!

Oh, and can you vote for me again today?!! Please!

Monday Murals - Pearisburg Vignettes

South Main Street . Downtown Pearisburg

Completed in 2009 by artist Jane Bode, these murals depict the history of Pearisburg and surrounding Giles County.

The panels feature early settlers crossing the New River on what was known as Snidow's Ferry...the Andrew Johnson house, built in 1829, still standing today (I'll show you a picture of that tomorrow)...and the old Savoy Hotel as it looked in 1920...the hotel was demolished in the early 60's

Signs, Signs & A Good Fence Somewhere in Old Virginny

Williamson Road . Roanoke

I admit it, I love Arby's. I know it's not cool to admit to ever eating at a fast food place but I do love me some Arby's. And I do love this vintage sign! I remember as a kid going to Arby's with my mom to pick up my dad's lunch. He was in the Navy and we'd run it over to him somewhere on base...32nd Street, San Diego. I'm a purist when it comes to Arby's...a regular roast beef sandwich, lots of Arby's sauce and potato cakes...yum! Linking with Signs, Signs

Can't remember where this is exactly but it's pretty much a familiar scene anywhere around here! Linking with Good Fences

Monday Murals - Rails and Trails

On the corner of Wenonah Avenue and Tazewell Street in Pearisburg. Artist "Brick" Marunich

Too bad they decided to hang this ugly ad over the top of it. Tacky, tacky, tacky!

Hope everyone had a great weekend. It was gorgeous here. Like spring! Nick was out of town and I took the boys to the rodeo Saturday night then we went and hung out downtown yesterday...just so pretty out!

Bistro d'OC . 518 10th Street . NW . DC

Looking through my archives I noticed this with Ford's Theatre in the reflection and thought it was apropos since I talked about Ford's this week! Visit the Bistro HERE although it says the website is currently down. Linking with Weekend Reflections

Willy-Nilly time:

1) I've been a terrible blogging buddy. I mean to visit all of you, just time is getting away from me. I swear that they are lying about there being 24 hours in a day.

2) I found this neat blog about vintage cookbooks/recipes. I LOVE old cookbooks! Check it out Cookbook Love

3) I'm bummed. For B and D's birthday present I had planned on taking them to see the Harlem Globetrotters this month. I was also going to get them a special pass for 30 minutes of court time with the players. Just discovered that they (Braden and Dalton) have their last game on the same night....glad Nick hadn't purchased the tickets yet...back to the drawing board. I did get them some Google Play cards on their B-Day just so they would have something until the game...thinking I'll just give them some moolah and take them to the mall for a shopping spree now that the Globetrotter thing fell through. Dang!

4) So since we can't have snow here, I'm ready for spring...and this weekend is looking to be GORGEOUS!

5) What do you think of THIS ? Designer babies? It's kind of scary to me but then I remember being freaked out when they first cloned a sheep....remember Dolly ? We are living in the future afterall.

Now it is your turn! Post 5 random things, ANYTHIMG at all, well as long as it's clean ;) ...link here, visit others and have fun! And honestly, I appreciate each and every one of you for linking! Sooooo sorry it has taken me so long these past couple of weeks to get back for a visit! But THANK YOU!!
