Rural Thursday - Blog Hop # 12
This cute little store is located in Giles County, Va. We passed it on Sunday while headed to Cascade Falls. We hiked a 2 mile trek up to the falls and wow, was it beautiful! You know I'll have pics of the falls to share eventually!
In other haps around here, Ashlyn, our oldest, 17, totaled her truck a little over a week ago. Thank goodness she wasn't hurt. She was heading home from her boyfriend's house, a very dark, rural road and swerved to avoid some deer but hit an embankment. Her truck (a full size F150) caught air and took her through trees, she took out a cable that holds the telephone pole in place and eventually stopped, (got stuck), right before hitting a big tree full on. She called me to tell me that she had wrecked, was ok, but her truck was stuck. I went out to pick her up and was shocked by what I had seen, where her tracks had lead. So very thankful that she is A-OK! So now we have been car shopping for her and hopefully she will be a bit more careful out there on the road! Teenage drivers...so scary!

Ouch what a scare. I'm sorry she (and you) had to go through that. I was told never to swerve to avoid deer, thankfully I've never had to yet.
ReplyDeleteI like the weathered look of this place!
ha, yeah that's what everyone says but you know, first instincts are to swerve lol....and she was going too fast for the conditions...it was so dark and you just know there are going to be deer around....i think this taught her to slow down :)
DeleteWhat a great looking store! It has lots of character. Glad to hear your daughter wasn't hurt! Sorry about her vehicle, though.
ReplyDeletethanks :)
DeleteGlad Ashlyn is okay!! Not looking forward to teenage drivers in my house ;-)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the Cascades. I know another blogger that just went this week too. That little store is so cute.
oh isn't that funny?! such a small world!
DeleteOh my goodness! Glad she is ok-my daughter was hit in the side of her car by a deer- they can really do the damage! I haven't been to the Cascades so please post pictures- I'd love a tour!
ReplyDeleteYup...I've experienced that teenage/wrecked car thing too. A few times to often. SO glad your Daughter is OK.
ReplyDeleteHiking is so much more fun!
This reminds me of an old country store near where I grew up. Beautiful area. Glad your daughter is ok. That's scary.
ReplyDeleteooh, sorry about the accident, but so glad it wasn't worse!
ReplyDeletelovely old place you've shared!
YiKeS! So glad she's safe & sound! My daughter had a wreck the 1st week she had her driver's license... a girl pulled out in front of her in the parking lot at school, so it wasn't her fault, but still... ya know?! She was sooo upset, but it didn't hurt her, the other girl, or her truck! Thank GOD!!! =)
ReplyDeleteSo thankful she's OK...I won't go into it, but a local gal here wasn't quite so lucky...she's alive, but her life will never be the same. I'm sure your daughter learned a very good life lesson.
ReplyDeleteSometimes those little country stores have the most interesting things! Beautiful photo.
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm glad your daughter is okay! I'll bet it scared the snot out of her (and you)!
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of the little store, it would be fun to stop in and see what they have! :)
Happy to hear mom and daughter survived the wreck. When my son started driving I feel was the most difficult part of parenthood.
ReplyDeleteI like the age of this photo and especially that Coca Cola sign.
Wow -- that sounds really scary, Tanya. Glad she was in a truck and not a car or the outcome could have been different.
ReplyDeleteThank God she came out of it all right! My goodness! She can always get another truck.
ReplyDeletemy hubby would definitely wish to see that. what a great shop/ store. (:
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I'm so glad Ashlyn is okay! Those roads always worried me--curvy and narrow with no shoulder and all those deer popping out--especially thinking about Kelly getting ready to drive. Here, it's the traffic that worries me. Maybe I won't let her drive, lol.
ReplyDeleteI have a few stores in my archives taken in Alabama and Tennessee that remind me of this one. I will have to dig them out and use them someday.
