A couple of soldiers from the 60th Virginia Infantry Co K giving a living history demonstration at Explore Park.
Explore Park is along the Blue Ridge Parkway, in Roanoke, mile marker 115. Explore Park is home to the Blue Ridge Parkway visitor's center and there is a nice museum that tells the history of this part of Virginia. There's a couple of reconstructed buildings on site and hopefully those will open back up soon. There's been a lot of commotion since we've lived here about what they will do with the park. I'm happy to see them getting it up and running again.
Explore Park also has about 1100 acres of biking and walking trails. We've packed quite a few picnics to have there and hike around :)

I enjoy reenactments and the people behind them.
ReplyDeleteExplore Park was a good idea that for some reason never really caught on. Botetourt lost several nice historical structures to the proposal. I hope that somehow those can be put to use before they rot away.
ReplyDeletei was reading somewhere that it was supposed to be like a mini williamsburg. i would so love that!
DeleteReenactments are so great. I love going to them.
ReplyDeleteI love these kinds of historical demonstrations.
ReplyDeleteIt's always fun to dress up and play out an alter-ego. These guys seem to be really enjoying themselves. Neat pic.

It's fun to see reenactments of our history.
ReplyDeletea good subject for B&W. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat better shot for black and white than a reenactment? Cool photo!
ReplyDeleteExcellent photo, i really like the grittiness of this.

This is a great subject for a black-and-white photo, and you've captured the soldiers very well.
ReplyDeleteWe'll have to make time to check out the park the next time we're on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
This photo could be out of an old book, wonderful! I love these historical lessons - it's great catching the reenactments here (though mostly Revolutionary history). Something that would be rare in a big city!
ReplyDelete(Yes, little movie houses are so much better than multiplexes!:)
Hi Tanya, what a great image and I too enjoy learning the history of Virginia. We often go to the Manassas Battlefields 15 minutes away and walk around.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my mac n cheese post. I too know of what you speak. When he was growing up my son kinda turned his nose up at homemade mac and cheese and we always went the box route. I still pop a box in my cart at the supermarket every now and again.
A fine shot of these fellows in costume. Also it is a very good black and white image.
ReplyDeleteLove the expression on that soldier's face. Great shot, Tanya. :)
ReplyDeleteOh I do love that photo. I love your sharing history with us:) B
ReplyDeleteWonderful.
ReplyDeletePlease have you all a good Thursday.
Great picture for B&W! I love those living history demonstrations, they are always so interesting! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat in monochrome, Tanya. I do hope the park is completely open soon.
ReplyDeleteGreat B/W shot. Looks like a good time.
ReplyDeleteDarryl and Ruth :)
The clothes dryer really shrunk that coat.
ReplyDeleteune belle reconstitution
ReplyDeleteThese reconstitutions are such fun! Great pic!
ReplyDeleteWonderful capture... I had a coworker who did this, it was his passion in life... my family and I went to a re-enactment once it was fab!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great park! I'm glad you posted about it. It looks like an amazing place to visit. Wonderful B&W (and so appropriate for the "time")
