Monday Murals - Old Brick Hotel

141 Court Street . New Castle . Craig County . Virginia

Built in 3 stages beginning in 1840…let’s get a closer look shall we?

A mural?! Let’s take an even closer look!

I love murals that reflect the history of a place…digging around I found THIS written by a family historian..it’s an interesting read if you like that sort of thing, which I do!

Tuesday’s Treasures - Santillane

99 Housman St . Fincastle

So in yesterday’s post I showed the painted rug from this awesome old house! Come along and I’ll show you a little more!

Over here we are sitting on a little bench enjoying the view!

This is the way into the kitchen…now we kind of unknowingly went trespassing at this point…the man checking us in told us to feel free to wander around and take pictures…so…

I of course wanted to see the inside and we were also in search of the bathroom…we followed some people into the kitchen then looked around a tiny bit and used the bathroom then went back outside…

While we were all getting ready to eat the owner of the house blessed our meal and made a few announcements like the location of the porta potties haha…guess we weren’t supposed to use the indoor facilities…how embarrassing!! So to the owner if you are reading this, we are sorry!! We didn’t touch anything!!

Ok I completely forgot to tell you the history of this old beaut! Santillane was built back in 1797 and has ties to Lewis and Clark:

Ashlyn and her boyfriend, Mitchell

We enjoyed the music very much!

Monday Murals - Bee Happy

Santillane . Fincastle

Last Saturday our church held a cookout and music at the historic Santillane house…I was so excited to get the chance to see this beautiful old home up close!

Is this a rug? Nope! It’s painted on the floor to look like a rug! How neat is that??!!

So pretty!! Now I want to paint all my floors haha…

Tomorrow I’ll show you around this grand old place!

Monday Murals - Maurice’s Mockingbird Mural

Wasena Market . 1115 Main St SW . Roanoke

Painted in 2018 by Toobz Muir to honor local poet Maurice Ferguson.

A few lines from his poem titled “Sailing For East Indies”

“All their creativity began

In fascination and error

Like mistaking a meadow stone

For a mockingbird “

I love it!

Monday Murals - Free Falling

The Lofts at West Station . 357 Salem Ave SW . Roanoke

Probably the most written about mural in Roanoke so it’s very easy to find info on this one…makes me sad for the others though that don’t get all the media attention…anyway…I can’t help to think of the song by Tom Petty, Free Falling…which also reminds me of a few years back being at a high school football game and finding out that Tom Petty just died and I was sitting by Dalton’s old girlfriend and I remember saying “Oh how sad, Tom Petty just died” and she said “Who?, Pom Petty?” So he will forever be Pom Petty to me haha…

Anyways, back to the mural…this awesome piece of work was painted by James Bullough back in 2018…US born, Berlin resident came all the way out to little old Roanoke to create this and we thank him!

Gotta Have Faith

East Washington Ave . Vinton

How in the world is it August already?! Summer has been flying by…I feel like I always get a little depressed at the end of summer…when I was a sahm I always hated the end of summer and my kids returning to school since I absolutely loved having them all at home for the summer…I have never been one of those moms who couldn’t wait for school to start!

The boys start back up soon but Braden’s classes are all online and most of Dalton’s are but he has an in person lab once a week…hope everyone has a great school year!

For Michelle’s Thankful Thursday I am thankful for kind hearted people…recently while at work I was helping this elderly veteran up to the register as he rode along in his electric cart…the man in front of him was paying with a Lowe’s gift card and told the cashier to use the balance for my sweet customer…we can sure use more of these kind gestures in the world!!
