1)
I love weather vanes...this one is in Buchanan

2)
Nick is upstairs watching Generation Kill and I can hear this song playing on the show...I had forgotten how much I like it!

3)
Cuppa coffee anyone?

4)
Explore Park
The boys were supposed to have a football game in Rockbridge County tonight (Thursday) but we have been having so much rain since yesterday...major amounts of rain... so they postponed it till Monday...I'm glad...Monday's weather looks to be much better!

5) The area where they removed the stitches is healing pretty well...I still have a deep cut on the side of my nose that they didn't stitch that just needs to heal naturally. I have been very good about keeping Vaseline on it like the Dr. ordered. Next week I can start tissue massage which will help to break up the scar tissue.

Well that's my 5 this week! I hope you will play along too! Post 5 randoms, link back and visit others! Have a great weekend :)

Fallout Shelter

309 Campbell Avenue . Roanoke

The boys and I have a fascination with fallout shelters...such an interesting period in our history. I couldn't find anything out about this one but I did find a video clip of another that is near this location showing emergency supplies being dropped off in 1963...you can view that short little clip HERE and you can read a little more about the shelters HERE

Excuse the slant..we were driving by and I quickly had to snap!

Slone's Grist Mill

On Sunday we went to Explore Park to hike around a bit. Before we moved here in 2008, Explore Park was a living history museum. These historical buildings were all moved here for that reason but it was very short lived and was already closed by the time we got here :( The buildings are still here and there are big plans to get this place going again.

My 1 complaint while there is that the trail to the historical area is also a biking trail and we had this group to contend with:
It was a large group, loud and obnoxious and riding their bikes in the grass tearing it up...I thought bike riders respected nature? Anyways the historical area is quite small and they took up quite a bit of room. There are miles and miles of trails, I only wish they would keep the historical area accessible to only foot traffic as this group had no desire to see the buildings, just used the area as a rest area ruining the tranquility of it for everyone else...ok, ruining it for me ;) anyways, that's my rant now to show you some pictures of the mill:

I've posted about Explore Park a few times before HERE HERE & HERE
and you can learn more about the park HERE

1)
Sunflower Festival . Buchanan

2) I've been mia this week. Had a procedure on Monday to remove some skin cancer on my nose. Some of you might remember I had a bit scraped off the same area a few years back but it came back again so this time my dr. wanted me to have the MOHS procedure done. They got all the cancer and I have about 20 stitches next to my nose plus many more under the surface. It wasn't really painful as much as uncomfortable and I am happy that it is over. I go back on Monday to have the stitches removed although already tonight (Thursday) I am seeing much improvement already. Yay!

3) I have been laying low but tonight I did get out to see the boy's football game. Another win for Lord Botetourt: 46-0! It was nice getting out and being amongst friends!

4)
On Saturday afternoon we went to the Greek Festival in Roanoke where I had a mighty tasty Gyro, yum!

5)
Here's Braden making the tackle...

That's my 5 this week! I hope you will play along too! Post 5 randoms, link back and visit others! Thanks for playing and have a great weekend!

1)
If you follow these train tracks a couple hundred feet or so you would end up at yesterday's house.

2)
Our boys won against Fort Defiance: 76-0

3) Are you watching American Horror Story? I am! I have watched every season since the beginning and couldn't wait for this one...it is title "My Roanoke Nightmare" but has nothing to do with my Roanoke, although many Roanokers that don't watch the show are freaking out lol...anyways, if you do watch HERE'S some interesting reading on this season!

4) Now THIS STORY will make your heart happy :)

5) My new favorite show is Californication on Netflix...although I can only watch when absolutely none of my kids are home as it would be very awkward given all the sex going on in it! It is a very funny show though and I am in love with all the characters! David Duchovny is brilliant in it!

Well that's my 5 for the week and I hope you will play along! Post 5 randoms, link back and visit others! Have a super weekend!

A Classic Brick

Glade Creek Road . Roanoke

This house basically looks right out over the old one that is not there anymore that I showed you on Monday. This is the only view of it I can get as the train tracks run along the front of it and there isn't a road except this one that runs along the side...I didn't think they'd take too kindly to me traipsing around their yard to get more pics ;)

Today is game day...remind me NOT to leave my camera battery at home like I did last week...yes, that happened, ugh!

Little House on Glade Creek Road

Glade Creek Road . Roanoke

This little place makes me think of that scene at the beginning of The Pirates of the Caribbean ride. The old guy sitting on his porch on the bayou...it was always one of my favorite parts of the ride mostly because of the lightning bugs I guess because growing up in Southern California I had never seen lightning bugs before...if you don't know the scene you can see it HERE

Today is my Anniversary! Married 31 years!

Old House on Colonial Road

Colonial Road . Blue Ridge

I would have loved to get out and walk around and take lots of pictures but there was farm equipment stored here and I was not sure if the owners lived right across the street from this place and were looking out their windows watching me ;)

Pioneer Road

Ashlyn and I ran to the grocery store yesterday and it was such a nice day out so we drove around a little. I had wanted to take this little road to see if the old house I showed you HERE was still standing. It wasn't. No sign of it anywhere.

Somewhere near Lake Robertson

On this drive back in April, we took some back road to Lake Robertson and came back home through Lexington and Buena Vista. I have shown you a few pics here and there from our little drive and one of the houses I showed has Genie from Buttons For Baga going crazy trying to locate it and I'm really not any help as I can't remember the road(s) we were on...soooo...I'm going to leave her a bread crumb trail if you will to narrow her hunt down! This house above was after the house she's trying to locate.

2)
We were parked here trying to decide where to go have lunch. I know you recognize this place Genie...for others that don't this is Stonewall Jackson's old neighborhood, his house is the brick building on the left.

3)
From Stonewall Jackson's house we then passed this beautiful old home. But I cannot remember how far it was but I'm thinking not too far...

4)
This is the place Genie is trying to find...saw this somewhere after the house above...

5)
Now Genie, if you come across this coffee pot you have gone too far! Good luck, I hope my clues help you! You will have to let me know if you find it!

Some of you might be thinking these places look familiar and you probably saw them right here...I've posted them all before, except #1 :)
