Willy Nilly Friday 5 No. 79

This week my 5 will be from the beautiful Duke Gardens!

1)
Last Saturday we took a little day trip down to Raleigh....some of you might remember we have found a taco shop there that makes Southern California Mexican food, which we miss. We left San Diego in 2001 and the Mexican food is what we miss most...it just isn't duplicated anywhere else.....nobody understands our plight...except for other transplanted Southern Californians.

2)
We had our lunch in Raleigh then back tracked to Durham and visited Duke University. Here we are at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens.

3)
I remember Tulips being my grandma's favorite.

4)
But honestly, I think of Camellias more when I think of my Grandma. She had several beautiful Camellia bushes...she also grew Tulips in her garden but the Camellias really stick out in my memory.

5)
I want to plant a whole bunch of Tulips here at our new house along the front porch in memory of my Grandma...maybe even a few Camellias in the backyard.

1 more shot from the gardens:
Your's truly and my husband Nick...tomorrow we will have been together for 34 years...that's when we started dating...in 10th grade! Crazy!

That's my 5 this week and I hope you will join in! It's easy, post 5 randoms, link back, visit others!! Thank you so much for visiting and playing along!

  1. A wonderful garden ... and good luck with your gardening plans.
Camelias seems for me very problematic (maybe, our climate isn't right for them).
    34 years - what a remarkable time.
    Enjoy this day

  3. I love these photos! Such a beautifiul display of the most colorful spring flowers. Congratulations on tomorrow being this very special day of your meeting Nick. That is a great photo of the two of you. Planting tulips is a lovely way of remembering your grandma. And yes, having lived in San Diego for many years, I can understand about the Mexican food. I may have mentioned before that we had a friend whose mother sent him care packages of that very thing when he went out of state to college many years ago :) Thanks for linking with Today's Flowers and have a great weekend.

  18. Sweet post -- we miss Mexican food here in Florida as well -- I'd drive a ways to find a good place! (Oregon is probably almost as good as California for finding the good stuff). Gosh, we started dating when I was a HS Sophomore too -- so adding a few more years to the number of years we've been married and (eeek! who can count that high!!!)

  26. Must be love! :D When I was quite young, I told my family I was going to marry a millionaire. They told me to marry for love the first time around. I think they were onto something. The flowers are gorgeous, I especially like those deeply-colored tulips. They look so elegant.
