More from the C&O Heritage Center in Clifton Forge.

“A freshly red-painted train caboose had, for decades now, made its home on a green, little patch of the world outside of the one-room post office. Every small town that I had ever been to had had a caboose.”
― Laura Miller

Starting out cold today. 10 degrees! School is on a 2 hour delay because of ice. Kind of hoping they upgrade to CLOSED! ;)

  1. They don't have cabooses in Texas. I miss seeing them.

  2. That used to be my favorite part of a train. Don't see many around any more, though. In some places they've been made into cafes or diners which is, I think, a nice repurposing. Stay warm!

  3. As a child we used to love seeing the caboose at the end of a train and we would wave to the man inside. The caboose man. LOL

  5. Nice! We don't have one in Strasburg but we have a reconstructed engine plus an elaborate model railroad in the town museum.

  8. Yep, school were closed here. Only the starting temperature this morning was 2 degrees Fahrenheit and, of course, because of the snow, there were very few places for school children to gather to wait for the bus

  9. Our schools opened late....and we didn't even have ice like they had predicted for this morning....we woke up to 27 degrees.

  13. That is a lovely caboose with its fresh paint and bright colors. I got to ride in one for about 20 minutes on the closed loop of track at Prairie Village. It was a life long wish fulfilled.

  16. The caboose at Rocky Mount has faded into a pink, not so impressive as it once was.

  17. No problems finding red around there, is there?

  18. I've never seen the inside of a caboose. Fun to see what they look like.

  19. We have lots of trains in this area, but I rarely see cabooses anymore. Most of the time it's just the engine and rail cars. The red caboose is a classic!

  22. Never heard of a caboose before - don't think it is something we had in Ireland. That one is stunning painted in red!
