Willy Nilly Friday 5 #1 - Anniversary Park

Anniversary Park, Williamsburg

If you remember the reason we were in Williamsburg/Jamestown/Yorktown a couple of weeks ago was so Nick could participate in the triathlon. First leg is a swim in the James River. He's one of those guys in the red caps. First group, green caps which are made up of military and younger guys, are just ahead, already swimming.

So now for some Friday 5's:

1) On Wednesday I took the boys to see the Lego movie. It was really cute. We laughed a lot. Regal Cinema has a summer movie special for kids. For the list CLICK HERE

2) This guy proves that there are people out there who care

3) I came up with a great idea (for me) to store recipes in Pinterest for my weekly menu. I make a new board each week labeled "Menu for the week of month/date" and new recipes I want to try out from the internet, I just pin to that folder. In the past when I want to try a new recipe, I would forget where I found it. Now it's tucked right there in my menu board!

4) Want to see some pretty pictures: CLICK HERE to see Bing's Photo of the Day Gallery.

5)
(click on photo to enlarge) My Ozzy :) He loves to swim!
“I like dogs
Big dogs
Little dogs
Fat dogs
Doggy dogs
Old dogs
Puppy dogs
I like dogs
A dog that is barking over the hill
A dog that is dreaming very still
A dog that is running wherever he will
I like dogs.”
― Margaret Wise Brown, The Friendly Book

Now it's your turn! Make a short list of 5 things on your mind, or long list, which ever, then link back to Willy Nilly Friday 5! Don't forget to add your link here so we can visit you! Happy Friday :)

Lost and Found

While driving through Yorktown we saw a couple walking with no shoes. Drove a little further and found them. Why? I don't get it. Walking around the beach, totally get the no shoes thing...but walking on a black top road? hmmmmm, not so much.

Passing on ABC Wednesday today. Could not think of a use for X...that's a toughy!

P.S. Don't forget to come back on Friday and link up to the very first Willy-Nilly Friday 5...Your mission: Post 5 randoms, link up, visit others! Spread the news!

Rubbish Tuesday - Some Really Old Windows @ Colonial Williamsburg

Don't you just love old windows? I do too!

This is a serious door right?! I can't remember what this little building is. Must house something really important though!

I like the white/black combo on old houses. When I was little my mom made my dad paint our house black/white. I think the actual color was charcoal. I just remembered that! I also remember my dad arguing with her about the color, but alas, our house became white/charcoal ;)

Like a little fairy-tale cottage!

I love the glossy magnolia. Don't worry TexWis, I have more fences to particpate in your Good Fences linky :)

I'm linking up with Roan's Rubbish Tuesday today. Post something old and link up too! CLICK HERE for more old stuff!

I also want to share with you that I will be starting the Random 5 Friday linky up this Friday. I'm calling it Willy-Nilly Friday 5 because I didn't want to totally copy Nancy's meme and I like the word "willy-nilly" :) So come along and link up, post 5 random errr willy-nilly things and have fun! Hopefully my linky will work. Never done this before! The link up should start Friday morning @ 12:01 and run through Sunday, fingers crossed!

Annual VA State Championship Chili Cook-Off

Sorry for the poor quality. Had my less-than-favorite pocket camera with me.

Went to the Chili Cook-Off on Saturday in Roanoke. It was fun but we weren't all that impressed I have to say. The booths were spread around instead being set up side-by-side which would make it easier for tastings and to try and hone in on your favorite to cast your vote. We arrived at about 11:30 and the event started at 10 or 11 and many booths were already out of chili and in the process of making more so we only tasted a handful. We didn't get a chance to even taste the winners since they were some of the booths that ran out.

These guys in the photo were my favorite "schtick-wise". They were dressed up as surgeons and their booth was the operating room. They had 2 chilis. One was mild or medium and the other was super hot. They would only let you try the hot chili after you tried the regular chili. Nick and I both tried each and the hot chili was probably the hottest thing I've ever eaten! It was H.O.T.!!

I voted for Roanoke Valley Community Credit Union's chili and Nick voted for WDBJ7's. I liked the credit union's chili better plus the people in the booth were all nicer.

Anywho, the event is for a good cause:
"The 35th Annual VA State Championship Chili Cookoff will be held on Saturday, June 21 at downtown Roanoke’s Elmwood Park off of Jefferson Street. The ICS sanctioned Chili Cookoff not only benefits the underprivileged children at Greenvale School, it is also a fun Roanoke tradition. The School is privileged to be able to continue this beloved and long standing event that entertains thousands of people in our community while also drawing out-of-town visitors who contribute to our local economy."

And here's a list of the winners: Results from the 35th Annual VA State Championship Chili Cook-off

Random 5 Friday & Trees of Williamsburg

I showed you this last tree on last Friday. Another view of how the tree grew right into the fence.

Randoms:

1) I know, last week I was saying I was going to start a link up for randoms. I didn't get around to trying out a linky so shooting for next week! For you linky users, which is easiest to use?

2) Made THIS last night. I used boneless/skinless chicken breast though. It was deeeeelish! Especially the tomato/olive salad! Yum, yum, yum!

3) I don't like when people say "nom, nom, nom" ....for some reason it bothers me.

4) Baseball is over. Now I have to get the boys their physicals for school football. Can't believe my little guys are old enough to play middle school football now. Conditioning starts next week.

5) Been watching Parenthood on Netflix. Love this show. I want to be a Braverman.

Have a super duper weekend :)

Rubbish Tuesday - Some Really Old Gates - Williamsburg

These are all scattered around Colonial Williamsburg. The last one is the Jones Family Cemetery, also known as the Secretary's Office Graveyard. The gate was locked so I couldn't wander around. It is very small though. I have seen photos from ghost hunts with mists coming up out of the graves! Spooky! If you are obsessed with old graveyards like I am, I found this interesting yet sad story from the Virginia Gazette that ran in 1918 about the graves of Williamsburg. You can read that HERE and you can see more old stuff by visiting Roan @ Rubbish By Roan

Something Sweet @ King's Arms Tavern - Williamsburg

After walking around Williamsburg for a bit, the boys worked up an appetite for dessert. We stopped at King's Arms Tavern. We've eaten there before, inside, but this time they seated us around back on the patio. I didn't even know they had patio seating. Loved it out there. Braden ordered peppermint stick ice cream with hot fudge and a root beer. Dalton picked plain vanilla and sparkling cider. He felt all fancy since they served it in a wine glass! I bypassed dessert and went straight for the lemonade punch with rum that our waitress recommended. It was delish!

Don't you just love those little lanterns? I bet it looks so magical at night. I want this to be my patio!

Random 5 Friday & Some Good Fences in Williamsburg

A pretty little lane in Williamsburg. Notice how that tree on the left has grown through the fence? Poor tree! I love Colonial Williamsburg. I want to live there. It is probably my most favorite place on the planet!

Linking with Good Fences

Now some randoms:

1) Yesterday I took Ashlyn to James Madison University for their transfer student orientation. She got her fall schedule and her id card! This is really happening! I am so excited for her! She worked so incredibly hard the past 2 years at the local community college to get accepted into JMU!

2) This is really weird...A couple of weeks ago Christian's girlfriend Alyssa was on Facebook and noticed a link for "21 Medieval Torture Devices"...she clicked on it and was going through the pictures when picture #16 came up. She noticed these "little ginger twins" and zoomed in and it was US lol...It was from our last trip to Colonial Williamsburg a couple of years back! How funny to be looking on a website and come across a picture of someone you actually know?! Some people say to contact them for compensation for using my picture but honestly, I don't care about that at all, I just thought it was so funny and so random! You can see the photo by CLICKING HERE (that's Braden and Dalton in the pillory. Christian is the one in the white hat locking the pillory down. I'm in the green jacket to the right and Ashlyn is next to me!) So while we were in Williamsburg last week, we updated the photo:
and a bonus one in the stocks:
They sure have grown since the last visit haven't they?!

3) Just read the a movie that was mostly filmed at a local park, Explore Park is now opening in some theaters...you can read the story HERE. I probably won't get a chance to see it at the movies but will watch for it on Netflix eventually! Looks interesting and I just love Explore Park. I've shown you Explore Park HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE

4) It's officially summertime in the Breese house and all around Botetourt County! School is out for summer!

5) I miss Nancy's blog and her Random 5 Friday linky. I loved running around bloggy-land reading everyone's randoms. I'm thinking of starting a link-up for it. I think I'll start it on next Friday.

Have a GREAT weekend!

Rubbish Tuesay - A Ghostly Grave

After Nick's race on Saturday, we had some lunch and he was wiped out. He went back to the hotel to take a nap and the boys and I went over to Colonial Williamsburg. Ever since our last visit there, Dalton has insisted he saw a face on a grave marker. This is what he's been talking about. I can see it too, can you? I also see a dog face below it, looks like a German Shepherd to me. Dalton sees a pig face. This is in the Bruton Parish Churchyard. Wanted to go in and walk around but it was closed for visitors.
