Willy Nilly Friday 5 No. 37

Interesting how much things can change in a mere 227 years...."In 1788 James Monroe purchased an 800-acre farm here to be close to his friend Thomas Jefferson and to establish a law office. In 1799 the Monroes moved to their new Highland plantation adjacent to Monticello and sold the first farm. In 1817 the Board of Visitors of Central College purchased 43 3/4 acres of Monroe's old farm, for the Lawn and the Ranges of the "academical village" that Jefferson was planning to build with private contributions. On 6 Oct. President Monroe, with former presidents Jefferson and Madison, laid the cornerstone for its first building, Pavilion VII. On 25 Jan. 1819, Central College was chartered by the General Assembly as the University of Virginia."

Now for some Willy Nilly's:

1) Dumb and Dumber To...the name says it all.....

2) The boys are supposed to have their first baseball practice tonight...rain...and cold...last night snow and freezing rain...earlier this week it was in the mid 70's...can we please have that weather back?!

3) Nick and I started watching Mad Men on Netflix....I really like it...crazy how women were treated then, and really it wasn't all that long ago!

4) I didn't feel really great on Monday...sent Nick to work, the boys to school and I layed up on the couch watching Grey's Anatomy all day...I think it helped :)

5) I'm currently reading The View From Mt. Joy ...I don't know, maybe it is just me but it is taking me a while to really be into this book...I read Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons a few years ago by the same author and loved that...it has just taken me about half through this book to bond with it though, unlike the other one where I was hooked right from the get-go.

Now it is your turn! Post 5 randoms, link up and visit others!! Have a great weekend!!

  1. Most of my doctors are at U.V.A. yet I never knew these facts! You must be talking about the college, not the hospital. The poor college is in the news AGAIN.

  2. What a wintry picture, nice but anachronistic!
The winter should be far away...
    Interesting historie!
Have a nice SPRING-weekend and get well soon

  3. Sounds like you had a varied week! Hope the winter weather is gone for good now and that you're feeling better. It doesn't seem right to be sick on the weekend.

  4. Yes, this weather is....typical, I guess! We had 70's on Tuesday, now cold and rainy today.
Hope you feel better soon, and thanks for hosting!

  5. The weather has been a roller coaster! Hope you are feeling much better for the weekend (I'm sure watching all that Grey's Anatomy helped... it is about medicine, after all... hehee). blessings ~ tanna

  6. lounging on the couch for a day sounds good to me . . I am still giggling about changes - in 227 years . . . oh, you have started my day in a really nice way.

  8. Quite a bit of history on the corner here Tanya. I agree with your remedy for an off day.. doesn't happen often enough but I looove one of those days when I can ensconce myself on the couch with book, iPad, TV controls, constant supply of coffee and goodies, so good. Of course if it happens to be raining all the better :)

  11. Funny how some books are just non-starters... I have a friend who will slog through any book she starts, not me, if it doesn't grab me in the first couple chapters, it's toast! Glad you feel better, thanks for hosting Tanya...

  12. I suppose this is typical March weather. We have warm days and then it turns chilly. I think we're supposed to have sunny, warm weather this weekend. Yay!
Thanks for hosting and have a nice weekend!

  14. Your Gray's Anatomy cure sounds good! :-) Don't you just hate it when it rains when you need to be out in it a lot! Especially if its a chilly rain. I also hate not being able to get "into" a book for a long time. Great history-related photo~!

I tried to link in but linky said my url was too many characters, so I went back and shortened the name of the post but the url name stayed the same. I don't want to just link to my blog, because I am about to post another post that is related to birds. I think that would confuse everyone! Aggravated but I learned my lesson...keep it short! :-)

  15. Not long ago but so long ago at the same time! Interesting!

  16. I think that now and then one needs a day of nothing but laying around watching Gray's Anatomy or something of equal curative value. Yep, snowing here. Definitely not baseball weather.

  18. I'm fanatical about MadMen. The music, cigarettes, whiskey, women and the intrigue of the ad business.

  19. A Grey' Anatomy marathon sounds like the perfect cure for so many things! I started watching Mad Men a while back, but didn't get as involved as I expected to. Looks as though you've had a bit of snow!

  20. We are water-logged here, but at least the temperatures have warmed up...some. I have those funky days, too..and laying around "vegging" as I call it sometimes really helps. I think our bodies are just exhausted and our minds are so busy that we don't notice until we start to feel bad. Have a super weekend.
