Heading downtown you can see the old Patrick Henry Hotel straight ahead...built in 1925 it has now been converted to apartments. Their website HERE tells nothing of the old hotel's history...to me that is what I am always most interested in first. At least there's Wikipedia for info! I have shown you the Patrick Henry in the past HERE

Yes. I wish all buildings and churches would include history on their website. I love the signs around Roanoke. Still haven't gotten back.

Hi Tanya, history just doesn't seem important to many folks...too bad. Thanks for being here for the party, stop back again.
ReplyDeleteI'm mostly interested in the history, as well. Just got back from a weekend in Roanoke helping our youngest move downtown to a loft on Church. Its always fun seeing all the new renovations going on in Roanoke. Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteI also enjoy researching the history of buildings.
ReplyDeleteOnce so illustrious, it ended with a sad tale indeed!
ReplyDeleteThis is a landmark building & so glad it is still there.
ReplyDeleteI like the look of the building.
ReplyDeleteGreat looking building. (I can't believe their website doesn't provide its history. But as you said: the internet provides information when the source doesn't.)
ReplyDeleteI think I remember visiting someone who was staying in the Patrick Henry when it was still a hotel. I didn't realize it had closed.

ReplyDeleteA nostalgic feeling: I imagine coming from the station in old-fashioned clothes with a hat and a brown volcanic suitcase, inside lined with silk and I give the driver a fine and at the reception on the wall hangs an old-fashioned telephone, the lift boy carries my suitcase ... America, I'm here!
ReplyDeleteI think it would be fun to live in an historic building.
ReplyDeletePS: Thanks for the link to Balboa Park. I've been to SD a few times, but never to the park or the "houses". :D
