ReplyDeleteToday is Saint Martin's Day in Italy. He is celebrated as the protector saint of cuckolds! Well, not by the church, of course, but by the rest of Italy...LOL!

ReplyDeleteI read your post yesterday about the Marine Corps birthday then noticed on the way to work a guy jogging with a full size Marine Corp flag. He was jogging on a bridge across a lake in a joggers lane. Then our local newspaper had a story online about a local Marine Corp group. I would have never knew to notice it, if not for your post. Pretty neat.

ReplyDeleteRemember on Halloween and we went to Ashlyn's school for their haunted house and Braden and Dalton were too scared to carry on? Well, we stepped outside and hung out on the benches waiting for the others to finish. While sorting through my photos yesterday, I thought this would do well for Veterans Day :)

A patriotic bench, nice find!
ReplyDeleteToday, 11th November, is a day of vacation in France. My grand-father was a soldier in this first WW, I was four years old when he died but my mother gave me many details about him. I wrote some words on this subject on "le bleu du ciel", my other blog (in French...). Like many others, my grand-father never spoke about this war, too heavy for words I imagine...Today, my daughter is studying in Germany, she speaks fluently German and I think it's a very good thing. Memory must be kept but...oh, it's so difficult to explain in a foreign language!
You're right to think about me looking to Bergson's photo today: "the lady of the Gulf"...it's me! (Chateaubriant is very close to Arradon, less than 100 km).

ReplyDeleteMy father-in-law recently received his several medals from WW II. Apparently there's a real push to make sure all the vets get whatever they deserved. After the war ended they discharged so many vets at the same time and everyone just wanted to get back home so they really didn't think about their medals. Now they're getting them and I think it's great.
