Rural Thursday Blog Hop #37

(Natural Bridge, Va)

My brother died Wednesday morning. My niece found him and called me. He had been a smoker all his life. He got real sick and was hospitalized over the summer, side effects from years of smoking. He was released and quit smoking that day. The damage had been done. He caught a cold over the weekend, and now he's gone. I wasn't sure if I should post this, but it's my day to day blog, filled with pictures and what life experiences I have so I felt kind of like I have to post this or I'd be cheating him somehow. I lost my mom earlier this year. She too was a heavy smoker all her life. If you smoke, please consider quitting. I've watched 2 family members die from smoking in less than a year and I can tell you that it's a miserable way to die. If not for yourself, then please stop for those that care about you. I know it's hard, but I can't imagine it being harder than all the pain and suffering you will experience from smoking...if not now...eventually....He was only 56.

  23. Of course you should have written this and posted it! It's your blog. It's your brother. I would think there was something wrong if you hadn't posted it.

Kurt and I quit smoking last Sunday. I hope it's not too late. We are still very weak and probably will be for a long time, always on the verge of relapsing, thinking we can't do this. Reading about your brother and mother gave me a jolt of strength this morning.

  24. Oh, Tanya, I am SO SO sorry for your loss! For both of your losses! God bless you and your family as you go through this. May He give you comfort and strength...and peace. Thank you for posting about the dangers of smoking. Our daughter smoked heavily, then quit when she got pregnant, smoked again years later, and quit again, and once again took it up. She quit cold turkey a few months ago, and I am SO proud of her! I pray this is IT...never again!
