Saturday we went to the Fincastle Christmas Parade. Here you can see people anxiously awaiting the parade to start. It was a great little small town parade!
“Living in a small town...is like living in a large family of rather uncongenial relations. Sometimes it’s fun, and sometimes it’s perfectly awful, but it’s always good for you. People in large towns are like only-children.”
― Joyce Dennys, Henrietta Sees It Through: More News from the Home Front 1942-1945
a great quote. :) nice brick building with pretty awnings! good 'small town' feel. :)
ReplyDeleteThe green awnings make the building and this photo very special. I'm not sure that I agree with the quote regarding big city living!
ReplyDeleteI like the building with the green canopy on each window and I look forward to your parade posts. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteOh I love that building. I understand I grew up in a small town and it is very true. I still love it there, My Mom is still there so I am there most days of the week. B I bet the parade was great. B
ReplyDeleteLooks like you lacking some snow, I will send you some!
ReplyDeleteLove the light spilling onto the red brick building! Hope the parade was worth the wait?!
ReplyDeleteA perfect quote to go along with this scene! :)

ReplyDeleteSmall town parades are usually the best! I like that building with the awnings!
ReplyDeleteI love that festive picture and quote - I've enjoyed big city living, but now that I'm in a small town, I can relate! So sweet and fun your mom used 'pea soup', yes must bring that phrase back:))

So glad you all made it to the parade. My back did not let me go to ours. I am wondering if this building is the old schoolhouse up on the hill. There used to be a bunch of antique dealers with stalls in it. Nice awnings whatever it is. Another warm day. genie
ReplyDeleteaccording to anita at blue country magic, historian on the area, this used to be the post office but is now the voter registrar's office. there was a fire in 1911 on this block so it was built sometime after. not sure of the old school you are talking about, maybe someone will have the answer. the only schools i am familiar with in fincastle is breckinridge elem and central academy middle school which are both up the road from there...i don't know how old they are though, i think breckinridge is the older of the two.
Deletei love those awnings too...hope your back is doing better!
Another entertaining photograph, Tanya. Hope you had a good day.
ReplyDeletethe weather looks perfect for the parade, and what a wonderful quote.
