I never got around to posting the obligatory spring blooms this year. Don't know why, just didn't. The Dogwood and Redbuds are my favorite, and they have almost completely disappeared, changing from pretty flowers, to their leaves of green.
We've had a couple of days of rain. A lot of rain. So much that the James River is flooding. Still more expected today. Braden and Dalton's elementary school lost power yesterday morning. They kept the kids in school but they all had to sit in the hallways and read. As of last night the power still hadn't been restored, so school is closed for them today.
The James River in Buchanan. I didn't take this photo. Snatched it off the news station's Facebook page. See those signs? Those are sitting in a big parking lot. You can't tell though since it's covered in water. We rent canoes to the right of this photo in the summer time and take a nice float down the James. This photo was taken this morning. It's supposed to crest by noon today.

Yes, the few dogwood blossoms still left on the trees took quite a beating from yesterday's rain. Poor things.
ReplyDeleteI am always amazed at how diverse the weather can be. You have too much rain and we can't buy ourselves a drop of moisture.
ReplyDeleteHope things start to dry out for you and all goes well as the school year wraps up.
You Dogwood bloom is beautiful, Tanya!
Beautiful blooms! Sad to see so much water already this spring.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dogwood! We are very low on rain this year so far. But it is coming. Some year we may all get just the right amount...maybe.
ReplyDeleteDogwoods are the quintessential sign of Spring's arrival. So pretty, and they seem to be beacons of light out in the woods.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers, hope the rain drains away quickly!
ReplyDeleteA very interesting account of the flooding. I admired the teachers finishing out the day in the hallways. Every day missed now would mean school longer into the summer I suppose.
ReplyDeletehope the flooding doesn't get worse! love those dogwood blossoms!
ReplyDeleteSo very pretty! I need to post some flowers. :)
ReplyDeleteYes this is the sad thing of spring...the flooding.sigh! But on the happy note your blooms are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI have yet to come across a really good dogwood to photograph.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, we're getting some of that rain up north now! I love spring, but agree that downpours are the flipside (sigh). But, oh I do love your blooms:)
ReplyDeleteI love the framing, color and light, and the beauty of this magical flower Great!
ReplyDeleteLots of rain and some flooding here lately too. I have a dogwood shot that I need to drag out before spring is over.
ReplyDeleteOh wow... I hope it calms down. The flowers are so pretty!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous magnolia Tanya -- and that flooding is scary stuff. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteLove the dogwood photo. Really great shot! We've had a lot of rain lately as well and have had some flooding. Of course last year we had a drought, and the year before that we had floods. I guess next year will be another drought!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photo, Tanya! Rain heading our way too and high winds. Weather!?!
ReplyDeleteI just love dogwoods. I miss them since moving to Florida. I several large trees up north and always made a point of cutting branches for inside the house.
ReplyDeleteI am your newest GFC.
Have a wonderful week,

The Dogwoods are gorgeous! That's the next tree I want to purchase. We had some crazy heavy rain for days this week!
ReplyDeleteDogwoods are among my favorite flowering shrubs. I have three. And I anticipate that there will be many stories of flooding this year, though I didn't expect that your area would face so much. Sorry!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shot! Things are blooming around here, too.
ReplyDeleteI've fished the James a few times. Beautiful river when it's not flooded.
Lovely dogwood picture!
ReplyDeleteWe are getting some flooding on the Shenandoah too.
Wow, so much rain! Love the dogwoods too, and glad to see this photo, though your blooms are now gone.
ReplyDeleteLove the pics on your site! The dogwoods & the barn from Tuesdays post are lovely. Great signs, too. I'm so glad you visited me at Doorkeeper so I'd notice to hop over here. Blessings!
