“A house that lacks, seemingly, mistress and master,
With doors that none but the wind ever closes,
Its floor all littered with glass and with plaster;
It stands in a garden of old-fashioned roses." Robert Frost

Great quote! Beautiful old houses. I would like to have that green one out back of this house. I would fix it up and make it into a guest house for my family. Love it!
ReplyDeleteThese don't look uninhabitable..it seems a shame to let these houses just sit. I'm glad they boarded the windows though, that somehow makes it seem that someone will be back to move in. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThey look so lonely sitting there...
ReplyDeleteI hope they'll find new owners soon.

As Mersad said... I hope it too.
ReplyDeleteMake for nice pics, though !
I hope that someone can restore and enjoy!
ReplyDeletesweet old things! i liked the name 'pearisburg' too.
ReplyDeleteSad to see them unused like this.
ReplyDeleteYou found the perfect words for these images... or the other way around!
ReplyDeleteA gal in town writing for a weekly has a column called "Not My Dump". She traces the landlord linage of such places. btw All are in much worse shape than these two.
ReplyDeleteI love this little poem! It is so evocative. The cute little blue house could still be saved. Fix it up and another coat of the pretty blue, it is adorable. The other house...well I think it may be past help.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the title of that PBS series "This Old House". Surely those guys could fix these things up for use.
ReplyDeleteThat's sad and makes you wonder what kind of tragedy, if any, happened there. Your mural yesterday was fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI always wonder why houses get boarded up - aren't there people to live in them any more?
ReplyDeleteSome masters are better than others.
ReplyDeleteI have lived in worse places than that, they aren't too bad. Must have been a state employee who took some yellow line home and painted the boards.
ReplyDeleteWhen I see houses like this, I always hope they will be used again. Great quote.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, we have quite a few of those here, too.
ReplyDeleteAnd alas, we have thousands of homeless who would love to have these places.
ReplyDeletePoor sad little houses! I'm sure they could be fixed up. The first one has a nice porch.
ReplyDeleteThat first one could be so sweet.
ReplyDeleteThe first one has potential, but the second one doesn't seem to have a future.
ReplyDeleteThey are starting to look a bit sorry for themselves!
ReplyDeleteRobert Frost had it right.. Well done
ReplyDeleteIt is kind of sad, I see so much potential
ReplyDeleteThe poem is the perfect go-with for these.
ReplyDeleteThe poem is perfect. Those houses need a little TLC!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful words by Robert Frost!
