Another Lynchburg Street Scene
I was looking through recent photos and came across this one that I took when we were in Lynchburg a few weeks back. Not a great one as I took it while riding shotgun in my husband's truck so you'll have to excuse the antennae and spots on the windshield please! What caught my attention was the ghost sign of Craddock Terry Shoes on the building to the left. Remember I posted the info here about the hotel? To the right is Amazement Square. A fun children's interactive museum which I posted about a few years back, right here. We'll be taking a trip to Amazement Square again soon since I purchased passes for the boys for Christmas.
Lynchburg has the best assortment of ghost signs. Here's a cool collection someone has put together, right here!
Every time we go to Lynchburg, I tell myself that I will take a trip alone so that I can just wander the streets with my camera. My husband is pretty good about allowing me to jump out and get a picture, or he'll stop in the road for me, but he does get tired of that really quick so I miss a lot! And he's not a big fan of just walking around downtown, not like I am. I can spend the day doing that!

That would be cool to walk around and just get photos of the various signs, especially in a town like that. There are some very interesting buildings in Lynchburg from the looks of it.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a really neat town. I know what you mean about going somewhere by yourself just to wander with the camera. My hubby is pretty good about my photo habits, but sometimes I think it would be good to just meander on my own. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteis that what they are called "ghost signs" ... so cool. i love lynchburg. great place. i prefer the old town to the new. love the old architecture. ( :
ReplyDeleteme too!
DeleteA nice solid feel to those buildings- It would be nice to wonder around the area.
ReplyDeleteI think Ghost Signs are fantastic and always make for an interesting photograph, well spotted! It's also very interesting to see your Lynchburg street scenes. I've visited Lynchburg many times. Alas, only in Lynchburg Lemonade form though! ;-)
ReplyDeleteTanya Oh I love this shot the angle is cool. This is surely a place where I would love to explore maybe with you that would be amazing. B
ReplyDeleteGreat buildings well worthy of photographing.
ReplyDeletei was trying to read the last word on that building so thanks for clarifying. and then i remembered the shoe. :)
ReplyDeleteSo cool! I love ghost signs, but didn't know they were called that. I recently saw one uncovered in a nearby town. Partial demo on a car dealership revealed a ghost sign on a brick wall, from an old ice cream shop. Love the sign for The Shoe in this shot!
ReplyDeleteThat is an amazingly-spotted ghost sign! I love seeing them when wandering around even bustling modern places, like New York City. How fun you chanced on Craddock shoes again in this way:)
ReplyDeleteLove those old ghost signs & I checked out the link for all of them around the area & WoW! what a collection! I should take some shots of the ones downtown here. Cool idea =)
ReplyDeleteWindshield spots add atmosphere to the shot. thats all you need to tell yourself ;)
ReplyDeleteBut is a lovely shot, looks quite a moody place, like something out of the walking dead. Awesome
Super shot, Tanya. I found a ghost sign in Coventry. Love them. (I left you a reply about Kate Winslet's house in The Holiday with a link you might enjoy looking at.) I love that film too! Good on your husband :).
ReplyDeleteI often dream of being let loose alone on a town street for an hour with my camera. :))
ReplyDeleteWonderful shot. I like the building on the right.
ReplyDeleteThose ghost signs were great! I love those old buildings and I hate to see some of them falling into disrepair. One of my favorite ghost signs from down there is the one you can see from the highway when you're going into Roanoke near the hospital. It says something about stables.
