The rest of yesterday's photo. RT 11 in Buchanan. It says "Askeys Mill Gro" on the front but I wasn't able to find out any info. Hopefully someone will enlighten us. I swear the land is slopey there because it looked even in my camera lol. Every time I drive by this I mean to stop and take a photo because I would just feel sick driving by one day and finding it gone and I never pulled over to photograph its existence. Took this on Friday when I took Christian out driving. I made him pull over. Of course he complained a little and told me he wasn't pulling over any more lol...and he didn't ;)
The front of this kind of reminds me of The Alamo...n'est ce pa?
just a little?....

Now that you have a chauffeur, may we expect more "stops" like this? :-)
ReplyDeleteI loved the door, I absolutely adore the bigger picture!
ReplyDeleteThe door sits perfectly in the bigger picture, interesting looking place. And you're right about the Alamo comparison too!
ReplyDeleteThat is Waskey's Mill Grocery Store. It was a small store that operated into the 1980s; I am not sure when it closed. It was famous in the county for selling beer to under-aged youth (not that I would personally know anything about that). I think the locals called that entire area Waskey's Mill at one time, but there isn't much written about it that I am aware of.
ReplyDeletethanks anita!! and that explains why i couldn't find anything, i was missing a letter :D
DeleteI was wondering what the other half looked like. I like old buildings like that and I'm glad Christian stopped so you could get a picture. I read Country Dew's comment so learned a little more about it.
ReplyDeletei saw the resemblance right away. :)
ReplyDeleteyou have a great imagination!! ( :

In reference to my comment yesterday, I'm sure thousands have been through that door then. Very cool old building! It does resemble the Alamo.
ReplyDeleteI remember going by there when it was open, have you ever stopped at the North Star?
ReplyDeleteyes, i love north star! they have the best hamburgers!
DeleteI would guess this place has an interesting history and has many tales it could tell! And I agree that there is a resemblance between it and the Alamo. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, that is an interesting building, not quite the Alamo, but still unique. Good thing you stopped.
ReplyDeleteHah! You have a new chauffeur.
ReplyDeleteI love that old 76 sign.
ReplyDeleteThat is YOUR alamo for sure. :) So cute.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you persisted and had your driver pull over!
This is such a cool building. Glad you photographed it before it's gone.
ReplyDeleteI can see why you'd be reminded of the Alamo.
