Catawba and Etzler. Troutville.
This is down the street from my house. It's been going on for MONTHS. I have to drive through this daily. It's a hassle. I heard they are putting in a traffic light and a bridge. There is no need for a traffic light there even though this area gets quite a bit of traffic because of the Botetourt Sports Complex. But the traffic is all going in the same direction. There are softball tournaments throughout the season. It brings busloads from out of town/state to play here. My boys will get to play one or two games at the sports complex. Ask parents of baseball players if they like the sports complex and you will get angry answers because the tax payers paid for this yet our own kids rarely get to play here (the sports complex was built before we moved here). Now all this road construction. We all think it's quite unnecessary. Down to the right was once an old farmhouse. Not too long after we moved in they tore it down. But they left this great old tree on the corner. Then they started this mess and out went the tree. I always knew I should have gotten a picture.

Edited with a new title, questioning the traffic light now since Anita says we aren't getting one! I like Anita's answer much better!

There isn't going to be a traffic light to my knowledge, just a new bridge. At least none of the article's I've written about this have mentioned a traffic light. I didn't think it was necessary, either. The construction is scheduled to last through October but they've run into problems shoring up the road around the creek so I expect it will be 2015 now before they finish.
ReplyDeletei've heard the traffic light rumor from a few people but yeah, it makes no sense because everyone coming for the complex is making a right and then everyone leaving is making a left, and the traffic on catawba past etzler just isn't that much to warrant one. and i'm sure it will go into 2015 because there are days that NOTHING is going on! sheesh, we just got finished with all that nice bit of road they fixed! plus, do you find it difficult to see when making a left onto catawba because of those road blocks? i do!
DeleteI have stopped going that way. I go down Blacksburg to Country Club and out.
Deletei don't blame you...i would too if it wasn't further for me...remember when we had to do that because they had it closed when they did that other road work? it was such a pita! aren't there any other roads in virginia that need fixing besided our little area?!!
Deleteand by the way, i figured you would have said something about that old house that they tore down a few years back...do you know anything about it? i used to like looking at it when i'd take the boys to school.
DeleteBut look how pretty the sky is!!! Gorgeous blue sky and that is making me smile... xox
ReplyDeleteI get tired of the interminable road construction where I live. Carver, ABC Wed. Team
ReplyDelete'progress' is not always pretty or speedy or convenient. grrr...
ReplyDeleteThese things ALWAYS take far too long to complete!
ReplyDelete'Not' sure :).
ReplyDeleteYou did make me laugh today, Tanya!
Sometimes 'progress' just isn't.
ReplyDeleteIf only they finish it fast!
ReplyDeleteHappy ABCW!
I hate road construction! I hope they finish it soon!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain! They've been working on the same road projects in town for over a year. It has become a joke about how often they have to tear up the work and do it again. This week they're tearing up asphalt they put down last week.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't look that bad... when you're used to Paris traffic jams!
ReplyDeleteSounds as though dealing with it all is quite TEDIOUS.

As much as I dislike the addition of traffic lights, there are some places here where I wish they'd put some.
ReplyDeleteOur town never has enough softball fields. :(
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your friend let you know that no traffic light is going in…..so sad about the tree!!
I don't know why road projects seem to drag on forever, especially when it is a route you use all the time. The same thing happens here and I hate it.
ReplyDeleteConstruction can be a nuisance....
ReplyDeleteThat blue sky is very vivid.
road construction = blah
ReplyDeleteA beautiful capture though sorry for all the inconvenience!
ReplyDeleteNice shot. I know how construction can be a headache.
ReplyDeleteNice photo!
