Pop's Ice Cream & Soda Bar. 1916 Memorial Avenue. Roanoke. 24015
I've been showing you around the Grandin Village area of Roanoke this past week. I showed you the Grandin Theatre HERE and the Morris Apartments and a mural HERE. This is Pop's and it is right around the corner from the theatre and the apartments. I admit that we've never stopped in there, nor did we this time since we were still full from lunch but it is a place I had heard about and need to get back to, soon! So you know me, I tried to find info on this great old building and found that it was once the Raleigh Court Library from the 1920's to the 1970's. You can read more about that HERE. I also discovered that not only ice cream, they have some pretty amazing grilled cheese sandwiches, which I found out when I came across a story in Esquire Mag, which you can read HERE...I didn't notice Pop's having an actual website but they do have a Facebook page HERE if you want to check them out!

What a happy looking shop!
ReplyDeleteOooh I love the little house. The second shot looks like it could have been taken in rural England!
ReplyDeleteThe dishes on their Facebook page look so delicious! Definitely a place to visit.

Ciel is right.. the door and window look very European.
ReplyDeleteVery attractive.
ReplyDeleteYou keep showing things that I haven't seen, I guess I haven't looked around there lately. I was in the pizza place a few months ago but seemed to have focused on that. I like the food coop store, neat stuff there.
ReplyDeleteThe Grandin Area is an one of Roanoke's more interesting neighborhoods.
ReplyDeletePretty nice digs for an ice cream parlor and with temps here finally expected to reach as high as 70 this afternoon--woohoo!--it might be time for some ice cream :-)
ReplyDeleteWow.... love this building with all the cute windows. You find the neatest things when out snooping around, Tanya... xox
ReplyDeleteGreat building and cute signs. Who wouldn't want to eat ice cream here?
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be surprised to see a few fairies frequent this establishment!
ReplyDeletewhat a cute little place!
ReplyDeleteAre you sure you haven't popped over here to England :). Looks so familiar. When you go back to try out their food and ice cream, take some photos inside.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a lovely shop... and you must stop in and have the ice cream!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a cute place. Every town should have an ice cream shop!
ReplyDeleteLooks very inviting,
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a good old-fashioned ice cream bar!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like my kind of place! The ice cream would be enough to draw me in, but grilled cheese sandwiches puts it over the top!
ReplyDeletewow, you are on a roll for sharing neat-o place. looks like a fun place to check out in person. ( :
ReplyDeleteI love the bike too propped up outside the shop. We had a short lived ice cream parlour and sorry to see it go. Something comforting about an old fashioned shop still alive and kicking.
ReplyDeleteWho wouldn't like an ice cream AND soda bar? :-)
ReplyDeleteI would really enjoy this place!
ReplyDeleteIf there is ice cream I'm in.
