JMU's Wilson Hall & The Kissing Rock

James Madison University's Wilson Hall
Named after President Woodrow Wilson who was born in nearby Staunton
The cornerstone was laid in 1930 and finished in 1931
Built of local Bluestone

Kissing Rock (you can see Wilson Hall in the background)
This big piece of limestone was unearthed in the early 20's. Rumor is that in the early years of the school the female students were not allowed to be alone with the male students without a dorm mother present so the boys and girls would hide behind this rock and... well...kiss ;)

I went up to Harrisonburg yesterday to help Ashlyn pack up her apartment. I brought down a car load of stuff. She still has a little bit more time in her lease so she is still hanging around there but she's very sad to leave!

Willy Nilly Friday 5 No. 82

Since Ashlyn graduates tomorrow and I took some pics of her on Sunday I am going to show a few of my favorites!

1)
Ashlyn's major is Political Science and she spent much time in Miller Hall

2)
This was an accidental picture. It was windy and she was trying to get her cap back on, waiting for the wind to stop....turned out to be one of my favorites!

3)
A couple more of my favorites that she wouldn't agree with...here she is posing with James Madison and again the wind blew her cap off but she looks like she is having a genuine good time with old James here! Makes me smile!

4)

5)
And here she is with Duke Dog!

That's my 5 this week and I hope you will play along! Post 5 randoms, link back, visit others!! Have a great weekend!

Willy Nilly Friday 5 No. 58 - JMU Homecoming/ESPN Gameday Edition

Yes, this photo might look familiar to some because I used it HERE back in May but it is the only pic I have that features JMU's name! For now!
Saturday is James Madison University's Homecoming game. Most of you, or some of you know that Ashlyn is in her senior year there. I'm so excited that we are attending Saturday's game and they were chosen for ESPN's College Gameday sooooo my Willy Nilly is going to be all about that bass game day stuff!

1) First things first...on a serious note...I, like others that knew him, either personally or through our blogs, am missing our Birdman ...he always made me laugh with his witty comments or triggered a memory with his blog posts...Rest In Peace Birdman...you are missed by so many...

2) Quad Talk from The Breeze (funny that this is the name of their newspaper when that is our last name!)

3) Newsworthy!

4)
JMU Tweets about Gameday!

5)
A picture Ashlyn tweeted...JMU is playing the Richmond Spiders

Well that's it for me this week! I hope to have lots of pictures and talk of a JMU victory for Monday!! Now it is your turn...post 5 randoms, link up and visit others!! Have a great weekend!! Look for us on ESPN ;)

Signs, Signs & A Good Fence @ JMU's Arboretum

Ashlyn took this picture on Tuesday. It's exams week and JMU brought dogs in to help relieve the stress on the students. What a great idea right?! Ashlyn just took her last exam yesterday so she has officially finished her junior year and is now on summer break!

JMU Arboretum...if I lived in Harrisonburg, I'd walk through here everyday...so pretty! For more on the arboretum CLICK HERE ...linking with Signs, Signs

Our World Tuesday - Hillcrest House @ JMU

Hillcrest House . James Madison University

Most of Ashlyn's classes are in this old section of campus. She thinks this is the prettiest section of JMU and knew I would too so this is where she showed us around. This is only 1 of the couple of pics I was able to get on campus (camera/battery issues, yesterday's post)...no worries...I'll just make another trek up one day when school is out and have her give us another tour, this time I'll be loaded down with extra batteries, ha! JMU is only about an hour and a half away so Ashlyn is home quite often so it doesn't make college life as hard on me :)

A little about Hillcrest House: "Built for JMU's first president, Julian Burruss, and his wife in 1914, Hillcrest served as the home of JMU presidents for more than 60 years. The house was renovated in 1949 and refurbished in 1967. Hillcrest was retired as the president's residence in 1978 and has been the home of the Honors Program since its inception." Taken from HERE and CLICK HERE for the history of Bluestone, used all over campus, including Hillcrest House.

Random 5 Friday & Some Good Fences in Williamsburg

A pretty little lane in Williamsburg. Notice how that tree on the left has grown through the fence? Poor tree! I love Colonial Williamsburg. I want to live there. It is probably my most favorite place on the planet!

Now some randoms:

1) Yesterday I took Ashlyn to James Madison University for their transfer student orientation. She got her fall schedule and her id card! This is really happening! I am so excited for her! She worked so incredibly hard the past 2 years at the local community college to get accepted into JMU!

2) This is really weird...A couple of weeks ago Christian's girlfriend Alyssa was on Facebook and noticed a link for "21 Medieval Torture Devices"...she clicked on it and was going through the pictures when picture #16 came up. She noticed these "little ginger twins" and zoomed in and it was US lol...It was from our last trip to Colonial Williamsburg a couple of years back! How funny to be looking on a website and come across a picture of someone you actually know?! Some people say to contact them for compensation for using my picture but honestly, I don't care about that at all, I just thought it was so funny and so random! You can see the photo by CLICKING HERE (that's Braden and Dalton in the pillory. Christian is the one in the white hat locking the pillory down. I'm in the green jacket to the right and Ashlyn is next to me!) So while we were in Williamsburg last week, we updated the photo:
and a bonus one in the stocks:
They sure have grown since the last visit haven't they?!

3) Just read the a movie that was mostly filmed at a local park, Explore Park is now opening in some theaters...you can read the story HERE. I probably won't get a chance to see it at the movies but will watch for it on Netflix eventually! Looks interesting and I just love Explore Park. I've shown you Explore Park HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE

4) It's officially summertime in the Breese house and all around Botetourt County! School is out for summer!

5) I miss Nancy's blog and her Random 5 Friday linky. I loved running around bloggy-land reading everyone's randoms. I'm thinking of starting a link-up for it. I think I'll start it on next Friday.

Have a GREAT weekend!
