  1. great photos of these two golden oldies. I think something unfixable must happen when people do just pick up and leave or here it can be an inheritance issue-no one wants it, can't decide on what to do and lovely old places sit empty everywhere...slowly disintegrating, its sheer craziness, I wish it were against some law..

  3. Can you imagine how this would have looked when it was all new and occupied Tanya, such a beautiful spot!

  4. Fine photos which make us imagine what it looked like when people lived there. Places get left empty when the residents run out of money, health, life, or options. Perhaps it is tied up in tax issues or no way to find next of kin. There is a story here.

  5. I don't know how people leave homes like this either. But glad you found it for rubbish Tuesday!

  6. I don't know. It looks so familiar. I wonder if we passed it on our journies or if it reminds me of my aunt and uncle's old house.

  8. Could be that it is infested with termites and if like our house, cold in the winter and the electric and other systems needed up grading. We can't do much with our house now as most of our money goes to taxes, healthcare and fuel.

  9. I understand that some of these old homesteads have fallen into ruin because of contested wills and/or for other reasons not having to do with just sheer neglect.

  10. I imagine there are lots of reasons but it's a shame. Love the barn!

  12. Beautiful locations... but those houses probably won't last much longer.

  16. I love these pictures. We have many rural places like this around my area, here in KY.

  17. These photos are so Virginia--lush and green, old buildings. I, too, wonder how people can walk away from homes and barns and leave them to deteriorate. I guess sometimes people are just unable to take care of them.

  18. This can happen in so many ways, just about all of them very sad.

  19. It's a throw-away society, even in the country. Many times you see those old farmhouses falling apart and right next door a newer brick ranch house that the family built. I think they give up on the old farmhouses because they're so cold and drafty and hard to maintain. I know; I lived in one. But I love them. they are worth it.

  20. That house looks so much like the one my mother grew up in. Awesome, as is the outbuilding. Wonderful post! Thanks for linking up!

  22. That's a great tin roof on the house. As in the case of my in-laws' home in another state--hopefully it won't go down hill like this before the family can do something with it legally. FIL ended up in nursing home after a fall, then his wife , then she died...

  23. I imagine this old place has a tale or two to tell!

  24. That's a good question..I'm sure they had a good reason, but it sure makes me wonder about these old deserted places. Lots of empty houses in town- and most of that is because of the economy

  25. What interesting captures....imagine the stories those walls could tell!

  26. Places like these make me wonder what their story is...lovely photos.
