1 Main Street . Fincastle . Botetourt County
The theme this month is perfect timing to show you our courthouse. Botetourt County is celebrating it's 250th anniversary! Today was such a pretty day so we drove over to get a picture!
Every year Botetourt hands out little magazines that have a lot of useful and interesting info about the county...you can always pick them up at local businesses at the beginning of each year. This year's copy is special celebrating the county's anniversary... I recently picked my copy up at the library...below are pictures I took from the magazine telling the history of our courthouse: (click on images to make reading easier!)
The Botetourt County Confederate Memorial was installed in 1904:

I have never seen it. I see why you chose this day, the sky is awesome!!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful courthouse and wonderfully preserved! A fitting memorial, with a cheerful background.
ReplyDeleteSo you are originally a Californian? We used to live only 1 1/2 hrs. N. of San Diego (Costa Mesa), and came there at least once a month, just to hang out. It's a city that never becomes boring. We also used to go there for July 4th, until parking became too much of a hassle. To get out after the festivities, it would take 2 hours just to get back to the freeway) Many thanks for featuring this beautiful courthouse for All Seasons, and have a lovely week:)
Yes my husband and I were both born and raised in San Diego! We left in 2001 and have since lived in Missouri, Georgia and here in Virginia!

ReplyDeleteWow!--1770, that is so cool. I love riding through old small towns, well, big cities as well--and seeing the old courthouses and town squares, fountains, etc. That sky in your picture is so BRILLIANTLY BLUE!!--love it!
ReplyDeleteI love to see these old court houses and this is a beautiful building. A perfect backdrop that blue sky.
ReplyDeleteThat's an awesome shot!
ReplyDeleteYour county is much older than ours (in BC it is called a regional district). We are barely over 100 years old. - Margy
