This Lewis & Clark Portrait Sign is in the front lawn if the courthouse I showed you on Sunday. The sign dedication was held on May 19, 2019. I did not attend but you can read about it HERE in the Botetourt Bee.
The sign commemorates Lewis & Clark's ties to Botetourt County. Clark married Julia Hancock of Fincastle and their marriage license is in the courthouse.

ReplyDeleteIt’s fascinating to learn about these explorers’ ties to your area... of course I knew they *came* from back “back East”, but growing up and spending our pre-retirement life in and around the territory they explored, I think of them as Pacific Northwest icons (which of course they are, but it’s good to know about their previous lives!). We actually grew up in the twin cities of Clarkston Washington and Lewiston Idaho! Lots of historical markers around there, as you can imagine!
